Statistical analysis <strong>of</strong> QLQ-C30 results<br />

The variability <strong>of</strong> effect between subjects suggested that no significant effects would<br />

be found in either the functional scales or the symptom scales when analysing<br />

differences in scores over time. A two-tailed Wilcoxon match pairs test was computed<br />

to compare pre-test Quality <strong>of</strong> Life sub-scale scores <strong>of</strong> the QLQ-C30 with post-test<br />

and follow-up scores. The results indicated that the QoL scores were not significantly<br />

higher at post-test when compared with pre-test (Z = -1,367, P= .172) or at follow-up<br />

when compared with pre-test (Z = -,406, p = .684).<br />

Effects sizes were calculated, and found at post-test to be a small to medium effect<br />

(Cohen’s d= .49), with a small effect at follow-up (Cohen’s d = .32).<br />

5.3 Effects <strong>of</strong> BMGIM on quality <strong>of</strong> life. SOC<br />

Participants reported quality <strong>of</strong> life by completing Antonovsky’s SOC, a 29 items<br />

questionnaire focusing on QoL (understood as a global attitude towards life), using a<br />

7 point Likert scale (at Pre-test, Post-test, and Follow-Up).<br />

Results – descriptive statistics<br />

Raw scores for each <strong>of</strong> the six participants are given in table 5.3 together with<br />

standard deviations calculated for all participants at the three data points.<br />
