Modulation
back to…
Tonic F major
and First theme
in V2. The two
soloists switch
parts, but
otherwise this is
a perfect
recapitulation.
Second theme
leads to the
‘closing
formula’
Second motive
in V2,
accompanied by
semiquaver
obbligato ends
the movement.
43 It is flying out
of my sight,
becoming
smaller and
smaller, just a
tiny spot in the
sky. 44 Now it is
gone, and so am
I – being the
pixy in the beak
of the swallow.
47 So that was
the end of that
story!
[And how do
you feel about
that?]
49 I have the
same feeling as
when finishing a
book – a feeling
of emptiness.
Yes, like
finishing a story,
feeling empty
di i d
do open up and
accept. [And you
are worth it]. I
must believe
that.
41 It is my task
to believe that.
45 (smiles)
[What?] I
suddenly had this
inappropriate
image of the
stupid
commercial
”Because you are
worth it.”
47 And the
image of the
(Danish
comedian) Finn
Nørbygaard with
one leg
extended, saying,
”Because I’m
worth it”. Very
inappropriate –
with the
beautiful music.
Well, it shows
that you can’t
control your
b i !
furniture ... and
people are spit
out (smiles).
[Anything
more?] 45 Yes,
flowers in pots,
things from a
dollhouse. It is
alive, but...
[A lot of things
are let out here!]
Certainly!
48 Now I pass
through the
nostrils of the
snake.
I can stand and
look through the
eyes, see how the
d h
I just saw a
green light.
Like a traffic
li h Y
47 [How is it for
you now?]
I feel peace and
calm.[Is anything
preventing you
from feeling
that?] No, just a
few tensions.
[That’s OK.
Would you like
more music?]
Yes.
The transition back to
tonic F is short and
maybe a little surprising.
However, the
recapitulation is perfect,
and the two soloists
switch roles – as an
extra manifestation of
their equality.
The last episode is
marked piano – like an
indication of the episode
being an ‘echo’ of
yearning quality – now
when we are coming to
an end.
