Step 3: Drag and drop the folder icon on<strong>to</strong> the icon of your hard disk.<br />

Using the Word Processing Files <strong>to</strong> Create Documents<br />

This section concerns the files for forms that can be opened and edited with<br />

your word processing program.<br />

All word processing forms come in rich text format. <strong>The</strong>se files have the<br />

extension “.RTF.” For ex<strong>amp</strong>le, the form for the FMLA Policy discussed<br />

in Chapters 2 and 3 is on the file Policy.rtf. All forms, their file names, and<br />

their file formats are listed at the end of this appendix.<br />

RTF files can be read by most recent word processing programs including<br />

all versions of MS Word for Windows and Macin<strong>to</strong>sh, WordPad for<br />

Windows, and recent versions of WordPerfect for Windows and Macin<strong>to</strong>sh.<br />

To use a form from the CD-ROM <strong>to</strong> create your documents you must:<br />

(1) open a file in your word processor or text edi<strong>to</strong>r; (2) edit the form by<br />

filling in the required information; (3) print it out; (4) rename and save your<br />

revised file.<br />

<strong>The</strong> following are general instructions. However, each word processor uses<br />

different commands <strong>to</strong> open, format, save, and print documents. Please<br />

read your word processor’s manual for specific instructions on performing<br />

these tasks.<br />

Step 1: Opening a File<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are three ways <strong>to</strong> open the word processing files included on the<br />

CD-ROM after you have installed them on<strong>to</strong> your computer:
