Step 3: Printing a Form<br />

Choose “Print” from the Acrobat Reader “File” menu. This will open the<br />

Print dialog box. In the “Print Range” section of the Print dialog box, select<br />

the appropriate print range, then click “OK.”<br />

Using the Financial Planning Spreadsheets<br />

This section concerns the files for the financial planning spreadsheets that<br />

can be opened and completed with Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet<br />

program that understands XLS files.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se spreadsheets are in Microsoft Excel format. <strong>The</strong>se files have the<br />

extension “.XLS”. For ex<strong>amp</strong>le, the Cash Flow Forecast spreadsheet discussed<br />

in Chapter 7 is on the file CashFlow.xls. All forms and their filenames are<br />

listed below.<br />

To complete a financial planning spreadsheet you must: (1) open the file<br />

in a spreadsheet program that is compatible with XLS files; (2) fill in the<br />

needed fields; (3) print it out; (4) rename and save your revised file.<br />

<strong>The</strong> following are general instructions. However, each spreadsheet program<br />

uses different commands <strong>to</strong> open, format, save, and print documents.<br />

Please read your spreadsheet program’s manual for specific instructions on<br />

performing these tasks.<br />

Step 1: Opening a File<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are three ways <strong>to</strong> open the spreadsheet files included on the CD-ROM<br />

after you have installed them on<strong>to</strong> your computer:<br />

• Windows users can open a file by selecting its “shortcut” as follows:<br />

(1) Click the Windows “Start” but<strong>to</strong>n; (2) open the “Programs” folder;<br />

(3) open the “FMLA <strong>Guide</strong> Resources” subfolder; and (4) click the<br />

shortcut <strong>to</strong> the spreadsheet you want <strong>to</strong> work with.<br />

• Both Windows and Macin<strong>to</strong>sh users can open a file directly by double<br />

clicking it. Use My Computer or Windows Explorer (Windows 2000,<br />

XP, or Vista) or the Finder (Macin<strong>to</strong>sh) <strong>to</strong> go <strong>to</strong> the folder you installed<br />

or copied the CD-ROM’s files <strong>to</strong>. <strong>The</strong>n, double click the specific file you<br />

want <strong>to</strong> open.
