• Windows users can open a file by selecting its “shortcut” as follows:<br />

(1) Click the Windows “Start” but<strong>to</strong>n; (2) open the “Programs” folder;<br />

(3) open the “FMLA <strong>Guide</strong> Resources” subfolder; (4) click the shortcut<br />

<strong>to</strong> the form you want <strong>to</strong> work with.<br />

• Both Windows and Macin<strong>to</strong>sh users can open a file directly by double<br />

clicking it. Use My Computer or Windows Explorer (Windows 2000,<br />

XP, or Vista) or the Finder (Macin<strong>to</strong>sh) <strong>to</strong> go <strong>to</strong> the folder you installed<br />

or copied the CD-ROM’s files <strong>to</strong>. <strong>The</strong>n, double click the specific file you<br />

want <strong>to</strong> open.<br />

• You can also open a file from within your word processor. To do this,<br />

you must first start your word processor. <strong>The</strong>n, go <strong>to</strong> the File menu<br />

and choose the Open command. This opens a dialog box where you<br />

will tell the program (1) the type of file you want <strong>to</strong> open (*.RTF) and<br />

(2) the location and name of the file (you will need <strong>to</strong> navigate through<br />

the direc<strong>to</strong>ry tree <strong>to</strong> get <strong>to</strong> the folder on your hard disk where the CD-<br />

ROM’s files have been installed).<br />

Where Are the Files Installed?<br />

Windows Users: RTF files are installed by default <strong>to</strong> a folder named \FMLA<br />

<strong>Guide</strong> Resources in the \Program Files folder of your computer.<br />

Macin<strong>to</strong>sh Users: RTF files are located in the “FMLA <strong>Guide</strong> Resources” folder.<br />

Step 2: Editing Your Document<br />

Fill in the appropriate information according <strong>to</strong> the instructions and s<strong>amp</strong>le<br />

agreements in the book. Underlines are used <strong>to</strong> indicate where you need <strong>to</strong><br />

enter your information, frequently followed by instructions in brackets. Be<br />

sure <strong>to</strong> delete the underlines and instructions from your edited document.<br />

You will also want <strong>to</strong> make sure that any signature lines in your completed<br />

documents appear on a page with at least some text from the document itself.
