Fourth, if a listed item has a Clan Extinction year that falls<br />

within <strong>the</strong> period referenced (such as standard au<strong>to</strong>cannons,<br />

which went extinct for <strong>the</strong> Clans in <strong>the</strong> 2820s), <strong>the</strong> Availability<br />

Code instead must be increased by two letter grades (<strong>to</strong> a<br />

maximum <strong>of</strong> F), and any ratings shown for periods after that<br />

era (such as <strong>the</strong> Clan Invasion period, which follows <strong>the</strong> Succession<br />

Wars era) au<strong>to</strong>matically receive a value <strong>of</strong> F.<br />

Fifth, any items introduced in an era that o<strong>the</strong>rwise do not<br />

exist in <strong>the</strong> Inner Sphere (such as <strong>the</strong> Ultra AC/2, Ultra AC/10<br />

and Ultra AC/20) receive an Availability Code <strong>of</strong> D for that era,<br />

dropping <strong>to</strong> C in <strong>the</strong> following era.<br />

Finally, any items not introduced during <strong>the</strong> Age <strong>of</strong> War/Star<br />

League era, and that have no introduction date for <strong>the</strong> Clans,<br />

may not receive a Clan Availability Rating, and so have an X<br />

for both eras.<br />

INTRODUCTION AND EXTINCTION DATES<br />

In addition <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> general Availability Ratings, all items also<br />

present up <strong>to</strong> three dates (years) for <strong>the</strong> Inner Sphere and<br />

<strong>the</strong> Clans, respectively. These dates note when <strong>the</strong> items or<br />

components were fi rst introduced in a fi nal production-quality<br />

form (and which faction introduced <strong>the</strong>m). Also presented<br />

is when <strong>the</strong> item went extinct for <strong>the</strong> Inner Sphere (and/or <strong>the</strong><br />

Clans, if applicable), and when it was reintroduced (if it went<br />

extinct and was subsequently rediscovered).<br />

When constructing units for a certain time period, a designer<br />

must note whe<strong>the</strong>r or not <strong>the</strong> items and components that go<br />

in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> unit’s design are even in production at <strong>the</strong> desired<br />

time. These dates are absolute, and take precedence even if<br />

<strong>the</strong> item is shown as being available by its Availability Rating<br />

alone. For instance, a unit being constructed before <strong>the</strong> Star<br />

League’s creation (in 2571) cannot mount an ER large laser<br />

(even though that weapon has an Age <strong>of</strong> War/Star League<br />

era Availability Rating <strong>of</strong> E), because <strong>the</strong> ER large laser wasn’t<br />

developed until 2620. It should also be noted that units <strong>of</strong> a<br />

given type (such as BattleMechs, Pro<strong>to</strong>Mechs, and so on) may<br />

not be introduced before <strong>the</strong> dates given for <strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong> Unit<br />

Type Introduction Dates Table below.<br />

The same generally applies <strong>to</strong> items and components that<br />

have gone extinct. Though surplus parts may have lingered<br />

for decades or even centuries, units defi ned by a full-scale<br />

production year cannot be made using items that have previously<br />

gone extinct (and have yet <strong>to</strong> be reintroduced). Units<br />
