for the formation of a perception of the world in the everyday life of Latgale.
The basic functions of the dictionary are as follows:
— to detect unique features of Latvians from Latgale (i. e. Latgalians) in a cultural
area typical for them;
— to highlight those concepts of Latgale which have been forgotten or are lesser
known today, but which are nonetheless important for the development of the
language and the culture of the region or for mutual communication and
cooperation between individuals (in the sense of a promotion of enculturation);
— to contribute to the acculturation of non-Latvians in Latgale.
