SECTION 072100 - THERMAL INSULATION: continued<br />

9. Remove mortar droppings on brick ties, shelf angles, brick shelves and other horizontal<br />

obstructions.<br />

10. Fill honeycomb in concrete with non-shrink grout or fill compound.<br />

11. Fill cracks in concrete and masonry exceeding 1/16-inch width and not exceeding<br />

1/8-inch width with mastic.<br />

12. Treat cracks in concrete and masonry exceeding 1/8-inch width and not exceeding<br />

1/4-inch width with sheathing joint treatment.<br />

13. Fill cracks, gaps and joints exceeding 1/4-inch width with tooled joint sealant over backer<br />

rod.<br />

14. Fill rough gaps around pipe, conduit and similar penetrations with mortar, non-shrink<br />

grout or polyurethane foam.<br />

15. Treat sheathing joints by filling with joint sealant and strike flush.<br />

16. Prepare areas to receive transition membrane with contact adhesive. Contact adhesive<br />

shall be provided at manufacturer's recommended coverage rate and visible for 1 inch<br />

minimum beyond edge <strong>of</strong> installed transition membrane.<br />

17. Install transition membrane according to manufacturer's instructions and drawings.<br />

18. Apply transition membrane or reinforcing fabric encapsulated in roller-grade product<br />

according to manufacturer's instructions and drawings in the following area: joints,<br />

changes in plane, changes in substrate, window openings, and transitions to different<br />

systems.<br />

19. Transition membrane or reinforcing fabric shall bear 3 inches minimum onto dissimilar<br />

substrates.<br />

B. Installation:<br />

1. Allow materials used during surface preparation to cure fully before applying product.<br />

2. Spray-grade product: Dispense in tandem with co-spray according to manufacturer's<br />

instructions.<br />

3. Cured membrane thickness shall measure a minimum <strong>of</strong> 0.040 inch.<br />

3.08 PROTECTION:<br />

A. Protect installed insulation and vapor retarders from damage due to harmful weather<br />

exposures, physical abuse, and other causes. Provide temporary coverings or enclosures where<br />

insulation is subject to abuse and cannot be concealed and protected by permanent construction<br />

immediately after installation.<br />
