additional coats as needed to provide dry film thickness that complies with paint
manufacturer's written recommendations.
3.05 CLEANING AND PROTECTION:
A. At end of each workday, remove rubbish, empty cans, rags, and other discarded materials from
Project site.
B. After completing paint application, clean spattered surfaces. Remove spattered paints by
washing, scraping, or other methods. Do not scratch or damage adjacent finished surfaces.
C. Protect work of other trades against damage from paint application. Correct damage to work
of other trades by cleaning, repairing, replacing, and refinishing, as approved by Contracting
Officer, and leave in an undamaged condition.
D. At completion of construction activities of other trades, touch up and restore damaged or
defaced painted surfaces.
3.06 EXTERIOR PAINTING SCHEDULE:
A. Steel Substrates:
1. Water-Based Light Industrial Coating System:
a. Prime Coat: Primer, alkyd, anti-corrosive for metal, MPI #79.
b. Prime Coat: Shop primer specified in DIVISION 05 Section where substrate is
specified.
c. Intermediate Coat: Light industrial coating, exterior, water based, matching
topcoat.
d. Topcoat: Light industrial coating, exterior, water based (Gloss Level 3), MPI #161.
2. Quick-Drying Enamel System:
a. Prime Coat: Primer, alkyd, quick dry, for metal, MPI #76.
b. Intermediate Coat: Alkyd, quick dry, matching topcoat.
c. Topcoat: Alkyd, quick dry, semi-gloss (Gloss Level 5), MPI #81.
B. Galvanized-Metal Substrates:
1. Latex System:
a. Prime Coat: Primer, galvanized, water based, MPI #134.
b. Prime Coat: Primer, galvanized metal, as recommended in writing by topcoat
manufacturer for exterior use on galvanized-metal substrates with topcoat indicated.
c. Intermediate Coat: Latex, exterior, matching topcoat.
d. Topcoat: Latex, exterior flat (Gloss Level 1), MPI #10.
