SECTION 096813 - TILE CARPETING: continued<br />

PART 2 - PRODUCTS<br />

2.01 CARPET TILE:<br />

A. Carpet shall comply with the following:<br />

1. Pattern Loop.<br />

2. Type: Modular tile, 24 by 24 inches square with 0.15% growth/shrink rate in accordance<br />

with ISO 2551.<br />

3. Pile Fiber: Commercial 100% branded (Federally-registered trademark) nylon<br />

continuous filament.<br />

4. Pile Height: Minimum 0.119 inch in accordance with ASTM D418.<br />

5. Gauge or Pitch: Minimum 1/12 inch in accordance with ASTM D5793.<br />

6. Stitches or Rows/Wires: Minimum 9.3 per square inch.<br />

7. Finished Pile Yarn Weight: Minimum 30.0 ounces per square yard. This does not<br />

include weight <strong>of</strong> backings. Weight shall be determined in accordance with<br />

ASTM D5848.<br />

8. Dye Method: Solution dyed.<br />

9. Backing Materials: Primary backing materials shall be synthetic. Secondary backing<br />

shall be 100% recyclable with recycled content thermoplastic polyolefin with fiberglass<br />

reinforcing.<br />

10. Installation Method: Quarter-turn.<br />

11. Color: Colors shall be as selected by Contracting Officer from manufacturers standard<br />

color palette.<br />

12. Recycle Efforts: Use <strong>of</strong> nylon fiber with 25% minimum recycled content.<br />

B. Basis <strong>of</strong> Design: Glitz Tile 59360 as manufactured by Shaw Contract Group.<br />

1. Minimum four different colors.<br />

2. Or equals with prior approval.<br />

2.02 INSTALLATION ACCESSORIES:<br />

A. Trowelable Leveling and Patching Compounds: Latex-modified, hydraulic-cement-based<br />

formulation provided or recommended by carpet tile manufacturer.<br />

B. Adhesives: Water-resistant, mildew-resistant, nonstaining, pressure-sensitive type to suit<br />

products and subfloor conditions indicated, that complies with flammability requirements for<br />

installed carpet tile and is recommended by carpet tile manufacturer for releasable installation.<br />

1. Adhesives shall have a VOC content <strong>of</strong> 50 g/L or less when calculated according to<br />

40 CFR 59, Subpart D (EPA Method 24).<br />

C. Metal Edge/Transition Strips: Extruded aluminum with mill finish <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ile and width shown,<br />

<strong>of</strong> height required to protect exposed edge <strong>of</strong> carpet, and <strong>of</strong> maximum lengths to minimize<br />

running joints.<br />

PART 3 - EXECUTION<br />

3.01 EXAMINATION:<br />

A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with<br />

requirements for maximum moisture content, alkalinity range, installation tolerances, and other<br />

conditions affecting carpet tile performance. Examine carpet tile for type, color, pattern, and<br />

potential defects.<br />

B. Concrete Subfloors: Verify that concrete slabs comply with ASTM F710 and the following:<br />

1. Slab substrates are dry and free <strong>of</strong> curing compounds, sealers, hardeners, and other<br />

materials that may interfere with adhesive bond. Determine adhesion and dryness<br />
