SECTION 260553 - ELECTRICAL IDENTIFICATION<br />

PART 1 - GENERAL<br />

1.01 SUMMARY:<br />

A. This Section specifies electrical identification work including the following:<br />

1. Buried cable and duct bank warnings.<br />

2. Electrical power, control, and communication conductors (and conduit).<br />

3. Operational instructions and warnings.<br />

4. Danger, caution, and warning signs.<br />

5. Equipment/system identification nameplates.<br />

1.02 REFERENCES:<br />

A. Applicable Standards: Comply with the applicable requirements <strong>of</strong> the following standards.<br />

1. American National Standards Institute (ANSI):<br />

a. A13.1 - Scheme for the Identification <strong>of</strong> Piping Systems.<br />

b. Z53.1-1979 - Safety Color Code for Marking Physical Hazards.<br />

2. Federal <strong>Specifications</strong> (FS):<br />

a. FS L-P-387 - Plastic Sheet, Laminated, Thermosetting (for designation plates).<br />

3. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):<br />

a. 70 - National Electrical Code (NEC), as applicable to installation <strong>of</strong> identifying<br />

labels and markers for wiring and equipment.<br />

4. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):<br />

a. 29 CFR 1910.145 - <strong>Specifications</strong> for Accident Prevention Signs and Tags.<br />

5. Underwriters Laboratories (UL), pertaining to electrical identification systems:<br />

a. 969-1991 - Marking and Labeling Systems.<br />

1.03 SUBMITTALS:<br />

A. Refer to DIVISION 01 and SECTION 260000 - BASIC ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS for<br />

administrative and procedural requirements for submittals.<br />

B. Includes, but not limited to, the following:<br />

1. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's data on electrical identification materials and<br />

products.<br />

2. Samples: Submit samples <strong>of</strong> each color, lettering style, and other graphic representation<br />

required for each identification material or system.<br />

PART 2 - PRODUCTS<br />

2.01 ELECTRICAL IDENTIFICATION MATERIALS:<br />

A. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide manufacturer's standard products <strong>of</strong><br />

categories and types required for each application. Where more than single type is specified<br />

for an application, selection is Installer's option, but provide single selection for each<br />

application.<br />

B. Orange "Emergency" and "( )-VOLT" Conduit, Equipment, Box, and Cable Tray<br />

Markers:<br />

1. General: Self-adhesive vinyl tape marker not less than 3 mils thick. Provide 1-1/8-inch<br />

wide by 4-1/2-inch long marker for 2-inch and smaller conduit. Provide 2-1/4-inch wide<br />

by 9-inch long marker for 2-1/2-inch and larger conduit and all cable tray. Except as<br />

otherwise indicated, provide black lettering which indicates highest voltage <strong>of</strong> cables(s)<br />

in conduit or cable tray. Provide black lettering that indicates "Emergency" power circuit<br />

is in conduit.<br />
