2.06 WARNING TAGS:<br />

A. Warning Tags: Preprinted or partially preprinted, accident-prevention tags; <strong>of</strong> plasticized card<br />

stock with matte finish suitable for writing.<br />

1. Size: Approximately 4 by 7 inches.<br />

2. Fasteners: Brass grommet and wire.<br />

3. Nomenclature: Large-size primary caption such as DANGER, CAUTION, or DO NOT<br />

OPERATE.<br />

4. Color: Yellow background with black lettering.<br />

PART 3 - EXECUTION<br />

3.01 APPLICATIONS, GENERAL:<br />

A. Products specified are for applications referenced in other DIVISION 23 Sections. If more<br />

than single-type material, device, or label is specified for listed applications, selection is<br />

Installer's option.<br />

3.02 EQUIPMENT IDENTIFICATION:<br />

A. Install equipment markers with permanent adhesive on or near each major item <strong>of</strong> mechanical<br />

equipment.<br />

1. Letter Size: Minimum 1/4 inch for name <strong>of</strong> units if viewing distance is less than<br />

24 inches, 1/2 inch for viewing distances up to 72 inches, and proportionately larger<br />

lettering for greater viewing distances. Include secondary lettering two-thirds to threefourths<br />

the size <strong>of</strong> principal lettering.<br />

2. Data: Distinguish among multiple units, indicate operational requirements, indicate<br />

safety and emergency precautions, warn <strong>of</strong> hazards and improper operations, and identify<br />

units.<br />

3. Locate markers where accessible and visible. Include markers for the following general<br />

categories <strong>of</strong> equipment:<br />

a. Main control and operating valves, including safety devices and hazardous units<br />

such as gas outlets.<br />

b. Fire department hose valves and hose stations.<br />

c. Pumps, compressors, chillers, condensers, and similar motor-driven units.<br />

d. Fans, blowers, primary balancing dampers, and mixing boxes.<br />

e. Packaged HVAC central-station and zone-type units.<br />

f. Tanks and pressure vessels.<br />

3.03 PIPING IDENTIFICATION:<br />

A. Paint all exposed interior piping. The color should be the same as the walls and/or ceiling, or a<br />

complementing color. The use <strong>of</strong> red paint is not necessary. Exposed piping in fire protection<br />

equipment rooms and mechanical rooms and all unexposed piping in the facility may be left<br />

unpainted. Exposed plastic interior piping shall only be painted if permitted by its listing and<br />

the manufacturer's instructions. Exposed and unexposed stainless steel piping will be cleaned<br />

and remain unpainted.<br />

B. Install manufactured pipe markers indicating service on each piping system. Install with flow<br />

indication arrows showing direction <strong>of</strong> flow.<br />

1. Pipes with OD, Including Insulation, Less Than 6 Inches: Self-adhesive pipe markers.<br />

Use color-coded, self-adhesive plastic tape, at least 3/4 inch wide, lapped at least<br />

1-1/2 inches at both ends <strong>of</strong> pipe marker, and covering full circumference <strong>of</strong> pipe.<br />
