SECTION 263600 - TRANSFER SWITCHES<br />

PART 1 - GENERAL<br />

1.01 SUMMARY:<br />

A. This Section specifies transfer switch work, including associated control devices as indicated<br />

by drawings, schedules, and as specified herein.<br />

B. Types <strong>of</strong> transfer switches required for the project include the following:<br />

1. Automatic transfer switch with manual bypass-isolation.<br />

C. Related Work Specified Elsewhere:<br />

1. Wires/cables, electrical raceways, boxes and fittings which are required in conjunction<br />

with transfer switch work: specified in other DIVISION 26 Sections.<br />

2. Concrete and grout for transfer switch pads and foundations: Specified in DIVISION 03.<br />

1.02 REFERENCES:<br />

A. Applicable Standards: Comply with applicable requirements <strong>of</strong> the following standards:<br />

1. Underwriters Laboratory (UL): Provide transfer switches and components which are<br />

UL listed and labeled:<br />

a. 1008 - Automatic Transfer Switches.<br />

b. 486A - Wire Connectors and Soldering Lugs for Use with Copper Conductors.<br />

2. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA):<br />

a. ICS1 - General Standards for Industrial Control and Systems.<br />

b. ICS2 - Industrial Control Devices, Controllers, and Assemblies.<br />

c. ICS6 - Enclosures for Industrial Controls and Systems.<br />

d. 250 - Enclosures for Electrical Equipment (1,000V Maximum).<br />

3. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA):<br />

a. 70 - National Electrical Code.<br />

b. 101 - Code for Safety to Life from Fire in Buildings and Structures Pertaining to<br />

Transfer Switches.<br />

1.03 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING:<br />

A. Deliver transfer switches and associated devices in factory-fabricated type containers or<br />

wrappings that properly protect equipment from damage.<br />

B. Store transfer switches and associated devices in original packaging and protect from weather<br />

and construction traffic. Wherever possible, store indoors; where necessary to store outdoors,<br />

store above grade and enclose with watertight wrapping.<br />

C. Handle transfer switches and associated devices carefully to prevent physical damage to<br />

equipment. Do not install damaged equipment; remove from site and replace damaged<br />

equipment with new equipment.<br />

1.04 SUBMITTALS:<br />

A. Refer to DIVISION 01 and SECTION 260000 - BASIC ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS for<br />

administrative and procedural requirements for submittals.<br />

B. Includes, but not limited to, the following:<br />

1. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's data and installation instructions for transfer<br />

switches.<br />

2. Shop Drawings: Submit dimensioned drawings <strong>of</strong> transfer switches also showing<br />

equipment weight. (Provide center-<strong>of</strong>-gravity for seismic rated switches.)<br />

3. Wiring Diagrams: Submit wiring diagrams for electrical transfer switches, and<br />

associated control devices showing connections to prime and alternate power sources,<br />
