SECTION 283100 - FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS/ MASS NOTIFICATION SYSTEM: continued<br />

cause any trouble alarms to be generated with the Fire Alarm system. The Control Panel<br />

for the Voice Notification System shall be independent <strong>of</strong> the Fire Alarm System and<br />

shall be capable <strong>of</strong> autonomous operation. The system shall be housed in a separate<br />

panel that contains an independent power supply and batteries, as specified above or<br />

same panel with the Fire Alarm System. Mass Notification functions shall take<br />

precedence over all other functions performed by the Voice Notification System.<br />

Messages shall utilize a male voice and shall be similar to the following: Final messages<br />

shall be coordinated with authority having jurisdiction.<br />

a. 1,000 Hz tones (1 second on, 1/2 second <strong>of</strong>f, 1 second on, 1/2 second <strong>of</strong>f, 1 second<br />

on).<br />

(1) "May I have your attention, please? May I have your attention, please? A<br />

fire emergency has been reported in the building. Please leave the building<br />

by the nearest exit or exit stairway. Do not use the elevators." (Provide a<br />

2 second pause.) "May I have your attention, please (repeat the message)."<br />

b. 1,000 Hz tones (1 second on, 1/2 second <strong>of</strong>f, 1 second on, 1/2 second <strong>of</strong>f, 1 second<br />

on).<br />

(1) "Alert! This is the Mass Notification System. There is an emergency<br />

situation. DO NOT evacuate the building! Stay in your current location!<br />

Stay tuned for further instructions." (Repeat message 2 times.)<br />

c. 1,000 Hz tones (1 second on, 1/2 second <strong>of</strong>f, 1 second on, 1/2 second <strong>of</strong>f, 1 second<br />

on).<br />

(1) "Alert! This is the Mass Notification System. There is a chemical gas<br />

emergency. Turn <strong>of</strong>f all HVAC equipment, seal all doors and windows with<br />

wet fabric, Don protective gear. DO NOT evacuate the building, Act now!<br />

Listen to the MNS system for further instructions." (Repeat message<br />

2 times.)<br />

d. 1,000 Hz tones (1 second on, 1/2 second <strong>of</strong>f, 1 second on, 1/2 second <strong>of</strong>f, 1 second<br />

on).<br />

(1) "Alert! This is the Mass Notification System. There is an explosive blast<br />

risk along the South wall <strong>of</strong> your building. Quietly move towards the North<br />

side <strong>of</strong> the building and exit the North stairs. Move away from the building<br />

heading north to the North parking area." (Repeat message 2 times.)<br />

H. All alarm initiating devices shall be assigned a unique address which is not assigned by their<br />

position in the circuit. The system shall allow the future addition <strong>of</strong> additional addressable<br />

initiating devices into any point in the circuit. Addressable initiating devices shall prohibit the<br />

insertion <strong>of</strong> nonaddressable devices. If zone address modules are required remote from the fire<br />

alarm control panel and are not an integral part <strong>of</strong> the initiating device, they shall be housed in<br />

NEMA 12 enclosures if located in dry areas indoors. Zone address module enclosures shall<br />

not be mounted in damp locations, wet locations, or outdoors.<br />

I. Manual Fire Alarm Pull Stations: Provide manufacturer's standard construction, red enclosure,<br />

manual fire alarm pull station with the following features.<br />

1. Surface mounted in unfinished areas and outdoors. Outdoor units and units located in the<br />

aircraft hangar bay and other wet indoor locations shall be weatherpro<strong>of</strong>.<br />

2. Semi-flush mounted in finished areas.<br />

3. Nonaddressable.<br />

4. Nonbreakglass operation.<br />

5. General alarm.<br />

6. Annunciator contacts; (NO).<br />

7. Double action.<br />
