SECTION 331200 - WATER UTILITY DISTRIBUTION EQUIPMENT<br />

PART 1 - GENERAL<br />

1.01 DESCRIPTION:<br />

A. Provide valves and fire hydrants for water lines as shown on the Plans or as directed by the<br />

Engineer.<br />

B. Comply with the requirements <strong>of</strong> the Sussex Shores Water Company.<br />

1.02 SUBMITTALS:<br />

A. Submit a complete list <strong>of</strong> all materials and equipment proposed to be furnished and installed<br />

under this portion <strong>of</strong> the work giving manufacturer's name, catalog number, and catalog cut<br />

sheet for each item.<br />

PART 2 - PRODUCTS<br />

2.01 MATERIALS:<br />

A. General: All work under this item shall be in accordance with the latest standards <strong>of</strong> the<br />

AWWA and in accordance with Sussex Shores Water Company specifications.<br />

B. Gate valves: Gate valves shall be installed where shown on the Plans and shall be resilient seat<br />

type, open right, mechanical joint, with accessories per AWWA C-500. Valves shall be Ken-<br />

Seal Resilient Wedge Valves, as manufactured by Kennedy Valve Co., or approved equal.<br />

C. Each buried valve shall be provided with a cast iron two-piece, slide type valve box. Valve<br />

boxes shall be 5-1/4-inch shaft with a round base, and be as manufactured by Bingham &<br />

Taylor, Tyler Company, or approved equal.<br />

D. Corporation Stop: "Mueller" 3/4 to 2-inch corporation stop with quarter bend coupling, or<br />

approved equal.<br />

E. Curb Stop: "Mueller" 3/4 to 2-inch curb stop with check, or approved equal. Contractor to<br />

supply valve box to comply with accepted curb stop in accordance with Sussex Shores Water<br />

Company specifications.<br />

F. Fire Hydrants shall conform to AWWA C502, and be "Guardian" as manufactured by Kennedy<br />

Valve Company, "Super Centurion" as manufactured by Mueller Company, or approved equal<br />

acceptable to the City <strong>of</strong> Wilmington.<br />

G. Tapping sleeves and valves shall meet the requirements <strong>of</strong> the Sussex Shores Water Company,<br />

and shall be as manufactured by Mueller Company, or approved equal.<br />

PART 3 - EXECUTION<br />

3.01 INSTALLATION:<br />

A. Prior to installation, inspect valves for direction <strong>of</strong> opening, freedom <strong>of</strong> operation, tightness <strong>of</strong><br />

pressure-containing bolting, cleanliness <strong>of</strong> valve ports and especially seating surfaces, handling<br />

damage and cracks. Do not install dirty or defective valves.<br />

B. Valves shall be set and joined to the pipe in the manner specified in SECTION 331100 <strong>of</strong> these<br />

<strong>Specifications</strong>.<br />

C. No valve shall be set under roads, pavements or walks, except where so noted. All valves shall<br />

be provided with cast iron extension boxes and covers at grade marked "WATER". Two (2)<br />

"T" handle socket wrenches <strong>of</strong> 5/8-inch round stock and long enough to extend two feet (2')<br />

above top <strong>of</strong> deepest valve box shall be provided for each size <strong>of</strong> valve furnished. The valve<br />

box shall not transmit shock or stress to the valve, with the valve box cover flush with the<br />

surface <strong>of</strong> the finished area.<br />
