SECTION 221116 - DOMESTIC WATER PIPING: continued<br />

2.04 PEX TUBE AND FITTINGS:<br />

A. PEX Distribution System: ASTM F877, SDR 9 tubing.<br />

1. Fittings for PEX Tube: ASTM F1807, metal-insert type with copper or stainless-steel<br />

crimp rings and matching PEX tube dimensions.<br />

2. Manifold: Multiple-outlet, plastic or corrosion-resistant-metal assembly complying with<br />

ASTM F877; with plastic or corrosion-resistant-metal valve for each outlet.<br />

2.05 VALVES:<br />

A. Bronze and cast-iron, general-duty valves are specified in SECTION 230523 - VALVES.<br />

B. Balancing and drain valves are specified in SECTION 221119 - DOMESTIC WATER PIPING<br />

SPECIALTIES.<br />

2.06 WATER METERS:<br />

A. Turbine-Type Water Meters: AWWA C701, totalization meter with 150-psig minimum<br />

working-pressure rating; with registration in gallons or cubic feet as required by utility; and<br />

with the following end connections:<br />

1. NPS 2: Threaded.<br />

2. Provide water meter with local register and high frequency pulse output compatible for<br />

monitoring by the building Johnson Controls Metasys DDC system.<br />

B. Displacement Water Meters (for Hydronic System Make-up): AWWA C700 nutating disc,<br />

totalization meter with 150-psig minimum working-pressure rating; with registration in<br />

gallons.<br />

1. NPS 1: Threaded.<br />

2. Provide water meter with high frequency pulse output compatible for monitoring by the<br />

building DDC system.<br />

PART 3 - EXECUTION<br />

3.01 EXCAVATION:<br />

A. Excavating, trenching, and backfilling are specified in DIVISION 31.<br />

3.02 PIPE AND FITTING APPLICATIONS:<br />

A. Transition and special fittings with pressure ratings at least equal to piping rating may be used<br />

in applications below, unless otherwise indicated.<br />

B. Flanges may be used on aboveground piping, unless otherwise indicated.<br />

C. Grooved joints may be used on aboveground grooved-end piping.<br />

D. Fitting Option: Extruded-tee connections and brazed joints may be used on aboveground<br />

copper tubing.<br />

E. Under-Building-Slab, Water-Service Piping on Service Side <strong>of</strong> Water Meter: Refer to<br />

DIVISION 33.<br />

F. Under-Building-Slab, Domestic Water Piping on House Side <strong>of</strong> Water Meter, NPS 4 and<br />

Smaller: S<strong>of</strong>t copper tube, Type K (Type A); copper pressure fittings; and soldered joints.<br />

G. Aboveground Domestic Water Piping: Use the following piping materials for each size range:<br />

1. NPS 4 and Smaller: Hard copper tube, Type L (Type B); copper pressure fittings; and<br />

soldered joints.<br />

H. Non-Potable-Water Piping: Use the following piping materials for each size range:<br />

1. NPS 3-1/2 and Smaller: Hard copper tube, Type L (Type B); copper pressure fittings;<br />

and soldered joints.<br />

I. Trap seal primer piping: PEX Tube, fittings for PEX tube; and crimped joints.<br />
