from other selected townships. A small percentage from Mamelodi complained about the level of
difficulty of tender contents. Even those who were able to understand tender documents did, however,
were not successful in obtaining tenders. It can be concluded that few black women entrepreneurs submit
tenders when starting or growing their businesses.
Level of difficulty by areas
The respondents from Ga-Rankuwa and Soshanguve felt that the contents of government tender
documents were more difficult than the respondents from Inner-city, Atteridgeville and Mamelodi. It
should be noted that the level of education of the respondents from Ga-Rankuwa and Soshanguve were
less than those from other areas.
Further differences in areas were investigated by means of chi-square analysis, as reported in Table 2

As indicated by Table 2, a significant difference was indicated by participating black women
entrepreneurs concerning the level of difficulty of the content of government tender documents, with
participants from Ga-Rankuwa and Soshanguve, indicating it as more difficult than the other areas.

Chi-square analysis indicates that black women entrepreneurs from Mamelodi and Hammanskraal visited
Tshwane local business centres significantly more than the participants from the other areas, in inquiring
about information on government tenders.
