COMBINED ALPHA AND BETA BLOCKERS<br />

Labetalol and carvedilol are the important drugs in this group. These are useful for the control <strong>of</strong><br />

hypertensive episodes in pheochromocytoma. Carvedilol is the most commonly used beta blocker<br />

in chronic CHF due to its antioxidant and antimitogenic properties. Other drugs having both<br />

α and β blocking activity are medroxalol and bucindolol.<br />

Note: Note: Carvedilol has maximum plasma protein binding (98%) whereas celiprolol has minimum<br />

(< 5%).<br />
