On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Johnston, these appointments were confirmed.<br />

EXCHANGE OF PROFESSORS<br />

(3) The University <strong>of</strong> Illinois Statutes provide that on recommendation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

head or chairman <strong>of</strong> a department and with the approval <strong>of</strong> all recommending<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficers and the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees a member <strong>of</strong> the faculty <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional rank<br />

may be permitted for a period <strong>of</strong> one year or one semester to exchange his position<br />

with a pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> approximately equal rank in another <strong>university</strong> provided the<br />

exchange does not involve substantial increase in the cost <strong>of</strong> instruction.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Lee S. Hultzen, Department <strong>of</strong> Speech, wishes to exchange his<br />

position with Mrs. Elizabeth T. Uldall, Lecturer in the Phonetics Department at<br />

the University <strong>of</strong> Edinburgh, Scotland, for the academic year 1958-59. Both have<br />

approximately the same background <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional training and experience and<br />

are teaching the same types <strong>of</strong> courses. The exchange will be stimulating and<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>itable to both individuals and to the departments concerned. It will involve no<br />

additional expense to the University.
