recorded that your work as a Trustee has included such important assignments<br />

as:<br />

Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Committee on Buildings and Grounds, 1951-54;<br />

Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Finance Committee, 1953-54;<br />

Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Executive Committee, 1954-57;<br />

Member <strong>of</strong> the Committees on Agriculture, General Policy, 1951-54,<br />

and the<br />

Committee on the Chicago Departments, 1951-53;<br />

Representative <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees on the Board <strong>of</strong> the<br />

University Retirement System <strong>of</strong> Illinois, 1951-54;<br />

Chairman <strong>of</strong> the Committee on the Selection <strong>of</strong> the President<br />

<strong>of</strong> the University, 1953-54; and<br />

President <strong>of</strong> the Board, 1954-57.<br />

Your other services to the University are also noteworthy; and they have<br />

been no less distinguished than your work as Trustee:<br />

Member <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Illinois Foundation from 1944<br />

and a Director <strong>of</strong> the Foundation from 1947 to the present<br />

time; and President <strong>of</strong> the Foundation, 1947-50. Your leadership<br />

gave the Foundation Board and Members inspiration<br />

which is reflected in the progress made by the Foundation during<br />

your three years as its President, progress it has continued<br />

to make in serving the University.<br />

A note <strong>of</strong> appreciation should be accorded the Officers and Directors <strong>of</strong><br />

Ptarline, Incorporated, for the contribution made by your Company in the time<br />

you have taken from its affairs to serve the University.<br />

And, finally, this testimonial would be incomplete without a salute and<br />

special tribute to Mrs. Megran who has shared the personal sacrifices you have<br />

made to serve the University so well and beyond the call <strong>of</strong> duty.<br />

For all <strong>of</strong> this the members <strong>of</strong> the'Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees are deeply grateful.<br />

They take this occasion to express to you and Mrs. Megran best wishes for<br />

many years <strong>of</strong> happiness, good health, and reminiscences <strong>of</strong> the good deeds<br />

which have enriched your lives and the lives <strong>of</strong> those who have had the good<br />

fortune to be associated with you.<br />

The President and other administrative <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> the University have<br />

requested the privilege <strong>of</strong> joining in this tribute.<br />

This resolution will be incorporated in the minutes <strong>of</strong> today's meeting as a<br />

part <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>ficial public record, and a suitable copy will be prepared for you<br />

as a permanent reminder <strong>of</strong> the esteem and affection <strong>of</strong> your colleagues.<br />

On the Fourteenth day <strong>of</strong> February, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Fiftyseven,<br />

and in the Ninetieth Year <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Illinois.<br />

This resolution was adopted by unanimous vote.<br />

President Megran responded to the resolution with a short address<br />

<strong>of</strong> appreciation and thanks to the members <strong>of</strong> the Board for their<br />

cooperation with him as President. He also expressed his appreciation<br />

to the members <strong>of</strong> the press who were present at the meeting.<br />
