research, public services, medical services, and hospital services identified with<br />

the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges as are not an integral part <strong>of</strong> a college or<br />

school.<br />

The Vice-President in Charge shall be appointed biennially by the Board<br />

<strong>of</strong> Trustees on the nomination <strong>of</strong> the President. When a new Vice-President<br />

in Charge is to be selected, the President shall have the advice <strong>of</strong> a committee<br />

drawn from the Senate <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges. The Vice-<br />

President is a member <strong>of</strong> the faculty <strong>of</strong> each college and school on that<br />

campus. In the absence <strong>of</strong> the President, he shall preside at meetings <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Senate <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges. Administratively, he shall act<br />

within the lines <strong>of</strong> general policy indicated in these Statutes and in conformity<br />

with specific policies adopted by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees or transmitted to<br />

him by the President. He may make recommendations to the Board, through<br />

the President, on matters <strong>of</strong> general policy pertaining to the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

Colleges. He shall make such recommendations to the President and to<br />

the Senate <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges as he may deem desirable for<br />

the proper conduct and development <strong>of</strong> the work <strong>of</strong> these Colleges. He shall<br />

prepare the proposed annual and biennial budget <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

Colleges with the advice <strong>of</strong> the Advisory Council and shall present these budgets<br />

to the President and to the University Council for consideration and inclusion<br />

in the University budget. He shall recommend to the President suitable<br />

persons for appointment to positions in the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges. He<br />

shall transmit to the President the names <strong>of</strong> candidates recommended by the<br />

Senate <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges for diplomas and degrees.<br />

(e) Representatives <strong>of</strong> the Vice-President and Comptroller, the Dean <strong>of</strong><br />

Admissions, the Director <strong>of</strong> Nonacademic Personnel, the Director <strong>of</strong> Public<br />

Information, the Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical Plant, the Director <strong>of</strong> University<br />

Libraries, the Director <strong>of</strong> Broadcasting and Manager <strong>of</strong> Radio and Television<br />

Stations, the Director <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Physical Education and the Graduate<br />

College, who are assigned to the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges shall keep<br />

the Vice-President in Charge informed <strong>of</strong> their budgets and policies and any<br />

changes therein which may affect the services which the <strong>of</strong>fice they represent<br />

may render to the colleges, schools, and departments. Within the limits <strong>of</strong><br />

the general policy <strong>of</strong> their respective <strong>of</strong>fices, they shall look to the Vice-<br />

President for guidance as to ways in which their services may best be utilized<br />

in accomplishing the academic purposes <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges.<br />

Appointment <strong>of</strong> these representatives shall be made after consultation with<br />

the Vice-President.<br />

(f) An Advisory Council for the Vice-President in Charge <strong>of</strong> the Chicago<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges shall be composed <strong>of</strong> the deans (or acting deans),<br />

the directors (or acting directors) <strong>of</strong> the colleges or schools, the Medical<br />

Director (or acting director) <strong>of</strong> the Research and Educational Hospitals, the<br />

Associate Dean <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges Division <strong>of</strong> the Graduate<br />

College, the chief representative <strong>of</strong> the Vice-President and Comptroller<br />

<strong>of</strong> the University, the chief representative <strong>of</strong> the Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical<br />

Plant, three members <strong>of</strong> the Senate <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges<br />

elected by that Senate, and such other members as the Advisory Council shall<br />

from time to time recommend to the Vice-President in Charge for inclusion.<br />

The Council shall have no legislative functions. It shall meet once in each
