Written notice <strong>of</strong> regular meetings shall be mailed to all members at least<br />

five days before the meeting. Written notice <strong>of</strong> a special meeting, with a list<br />

<strong>of</strong> the subjects to be considered, shall be mailed to all members at least five<br />

days before the meeting. Only subjects specifically listed in the notice <strong>of</strong> a<br />

special meeting may be considered at that meeting. A quorum for any regular<br />

or special meeting <strong>of</strong> any Senate shall consist <strong>of</strong> one-third <strong>of</strong> the total membership<br />

<strong>of</strong> that Senate or fifty members, whichever is the smaller number.<br />

(g) Except as otherwise provided in these Statutes, each Senate shall<br />

determine for its campus: requirements for admission to the several colleges,<br />

schools, and other teaching divisions; general requirements for degrees and<br />

certificates; questions <strong>of</strong> educational policy; relations between colleges,<br />

schools, and other teaching divisions; changes in the amount, character, or<br />

quality <strong>of</strong> work required for admission to the colleges, schools, and other<br />

teaching divisions; and changes in the total number <strong>of</strong> hours required for<br />

degrees or certificates. Neither the powers conferred on the several Senates<br />

by this paragraph (g) nor the powers conferred by paragraph (e) <strong>of</strong> this<br />

Section shall extend to matters over which the college is given jurisdiction by<br />

Section 8 (c).<br />

(h) Each Senate shall elect a Committee on Student Discipline which<br />

shall appoint one or more subcommittees on which, unless the Senate determines<br />

otherwise, there shall be voting student representatives. These subcommittees<br />

shall have original jurisdiction to hear and render decisions in all<br />

disciplinary cases, unless the Senate Committee determines to exercise original<br />

jurisdiction. The decision <strong>of</strong> a subcommittee not appealed to the Committee<br />

shall be final. The Committee on Student Discipline shall hear and take action<br />

for the Senate in cases in which it exercises original jurisdiction and in cases<br />

appealed to it from its subcommittees. The Committee shall formulate and<br />

adopt, after consultation with the Legal Counsel, disciplinary and hearing<br />

procedures, which shall be followed in all undergraduate student disciplinary<br />

proceedings. In hearing and deciding any appeal, the Committee may conduct<br />

a hearing de novo, or may act solely upon the record in the case before the<br />

subcommittee, as the Committee, in its discretion, may determine.<br />

(i) The Senates at Urbana-Champaign and at the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

Colleges shall recommend candidates for diplomas, degrees, and certificates to<br />

be conferred by the President under the authority <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees.<br />

(j) No new line <strong>of</strong> work involving questions <strong>of</strong> general educational<br />

policy shall be established on any campus except upon approval <strong>of</strong> the Senate<br />

concerned and except as elsewhere provided in these Statutes.<br />

(k) Each Senate may propose amendments to these Statutes through the<br />

Senate Coordinating Council to the President and the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees as<br />

provided in Section 65.<br />

(1) Each Senate shall elect annually by ballot from its membership a<br />

Committee on Committees consisting <strong>of</strong> not fewer than three persons. Not<br />

more than one member <strong>of</strong> this Committee <strong>of</strong> the Urbana-Champaign Senate<br />

shall be from any one college or school. Upon nomination made by this Committee<br />

after consultation with the President, in the case <strong>of</strong> the Urbana-<br />

Champaign Senate, and with the Vice-President in Charge <strong>of</strong> the Chicago<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges or with the Executive Dean <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Undergraduate<br />

Division, respectively, each Senate shall elect committees on educational
