and, the Finance Committee <strong>of</strong> said Board has determined that it is advantageous<br />

to sell the above listed securities,<br />

Now therefore be it resolved by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong><br />

Illinois that these securities be sold and that H. O. Farber, Comptroller, and<br />

A. J. Janata, Secretary, be authorized to execute all documents necessary to complete<br />

such sale.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Swain, this resolution was adopted.<br />

BUSINESS PRESENTED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY<br />

The Board considered the following recommendations and reports<br />

from the President <strong>of</strong> the University.<br />

APPOINTMENTS TO THE FACULTY<br />

(1) The following new appointments to the faculty <strong>of</strong> the rank <strong>of</strong> Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

and above, and involving tenure, have been approved since the previous<br />

meeting <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees.<br />

1. HARLOW W. ADES, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Electrical Engineering on one-half time and<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physiology on one-half time, beginning September 1, 1957, at an<br />

annual salary <strong>of</strong> $12,500 (A).<br />

2. ZELMAN COWEN, George A. Miller Visiting Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Law, for the first<br />

semester, 1957-58, at a salary <strong>of</strong> $8,000 (G).<br />

3. HAROLD A. DECKER, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Music, beginning September 1, 1957, at an<br />

annual salary <strong>of</strong> $9,200 (A).<br />

4. VINCENT J. DE FEO, Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Anatomy, beginning August 1,<br />

1957, at an annual salary <strong>of</strong> $7,000 (BY).<br />

5. ANDREW V. GRANATO, Research Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physics, beginning<br />

September I, 1957, at an annual salary <strong>of</strong> $7,000 (DY).<br />

6. CHARLES H. GRIFFIN, Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Accountancy, beginning September<br />

I, 1957, at an annual salary <strong>of</strong> $7,500 (B).<br />

7. ROBERT P. LINK, Associate Dean <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Fine and Applied Arts and<br />

Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Architecture, beginning September 1, 1957, at an annual<br />

salary <strong>of</strong> $11,000 (DY; A).<br />

8. PAUL PROEHL, Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Law, beginning September 1, 1957, at an<br />

annual salary o£ $8,400 (D).<br />

9. ALAN M. ROBERTSON, Clinical Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Psychiatry, beginning<br />

April 1, 1957, without salary (DY).<br />

10. HAROLD M. ROSENBERG, Visiting Research Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Physical<br />

Metallurgy, for two months from June 16, IQ57, at a salary <strong>of</strong> $1,500 (G).<br />

11. ELIZABETH J. SIMPSON, Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Home Economics Education, in<br />

the College <strong>of</strong> Education, beginning September 1, 1957, at an annual salary <strong>of</strong><br />

$7,000 (A).<br />

12. WILLIAM G. SLATE, Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> Obstetrics and Gynecology, beginning<br />

July I, 1957, at an. annual salary <strong>of</strong> $10,000 (DY).<br />

Appointments to Nonacademic Staff<br />

The Director <strong>of</strong> Nonacademic Personnel reports the following appointments to<br />

supervisory positions <strong>of</strong> upper level responsibility.<br />

1. LOUETTA IRWIN, Placement Officer in the Office <strong>of</strong> Nonacademic Personnel,<br />

Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges, beginning February 15. 1957, at an annual salary<br />

<strong>of</strong> $4,500-<br />

2. JANE A. MIKKELSEN, Dietitian, Research and Educational Hospitals, beginning<br />

January 29, 1957, at an annual salary <strong>of</strong> $4,200.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Bissell, these appointments were confirmed.
