The Committee on Buildings and Grounds has been consulted regarding this contract<br />

and is prepared to support the recommendation.<br />

I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Board<br />

be authorized to execute this contract.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mrs. Watkins, this contract was awarded, and the<br />

Comptroller and the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Board were authorized to execute<br />

the same.<br />

CONTRACT FOR LANDSCAPING OF RESIDENCE HALLS<br />

AND BAND BUILDING AREAS<br />

(18) The Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller<br />

recommend award <strong>of</strong> a contract for $15,348.50 to Irving L. Peterson, Landscape<br />

Architect, Champaign, for landscaping (including fine grading, lawn seeding,<br />

planting <strong>of</strong> trees and shrubs) the Men's Residence Halls Additions three and four,<br />

and the Band Building areas.<br />

For payments on this contract, $6,437.25 will be assigned from the proceeds<br />

<strong>of</strong> the issue <strong>of</strong> Dormitory Revenue Bonds <strong>of</strong> 1956 and $8,911.25 from the state<br />

appropriation for the construction <strong>of</strong> the Band Building.<br />

I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Board<br />

be authorized to execute this contract.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Swain, this contract was awarded, and the Comptroller<br />

and the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Board were authorized to execute the<br />

same.<br />

CONTRACT FOR PLASTERING AND ACOUSTICAL WORK<br />

(19) The Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller<br />

recommend award <strong>of</strong> a contract to Edmond T. Drewitch, Urbana, the lowest<br />

bidder, for maintenance, plastering, patching repairs, and acoustical installations,<br />

work to be done as needed, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1957, on the basis<br />

<strong>of</strong> the following terms: $2.25 an hour for trucking <strong>of</strong> equipment and materials<br />

for actual time used solely for transportation, provided that not over 10 per cent<br />

<strong>of</strong> one job will be charged to trucking costs unless the total costs are $25.00 or<br />

less, and contractor's fee <strong>of</strong> 19 per cent <strong>of</strong> all job costs.<br />

I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Board<br />

be authorized to execute this contract.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Nickell, this contract was awarded, and the<br />

Comptroller and the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Board were authorized to execute<br />

the same. CONTRACTS FOR REMODELING IN DENTISTRY-<br />

MEDICINE-PHARMACY BUILDING<br />

(20) The Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical Plant and the Vice-President and Comptroller<br />

recommend award <strong>of</strong> contracts to the Mutual Contracting Company, Chicago, the<br />

lowest bidder, for remodeling in the Dentistry-Medicine-Pharmacy Building as<br />

follows:<br />

For alterations <strong>of</strong> quarters for the Department <strong>of</strong> Dental Histology $35 274<br />

The work will consist <strong>of</strong> remodeling rooms on the tenth floor <strong>of</strong> the<br />

second unit <strong>of</strong> the building and will include installation <strong>of</strong> new partitions<br />

to increase the number <strong>of</strong> rooms in the area, installation <strong>of</strong> new<br />

laboratory furniture and the necessary utility services, improvements<br />

in lighting, and general rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> the area.<br />

For alterations <strong>of</strong> quarters <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Biological Chemistry. ... 10 256<br />

The work will consist <strong>of</strong> remodeling rooms in the first unit <strong>of</strong> the<br />

building, including improvements in lighting, installation <strong>of</strong> new laboratory<br />

furniture and the necessary utility services, and general rehabilitation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the area.<br />

Both projects are a part <strong>of</strong> the federal matching funds program for expansion qt<br />

health research facilities. Funds are available in a federal grant (U.S. Public<br />

Health Service RC-88-College <strong>of</strong> Dentistry — Dental Research Laboratory) and<br />

in the Revenue Bonds <strong>of</strong> 1951 — Construction Fund Account for the first project;
