cataloging, ordering, and other matters <strong>of</strong> library administration, and the<br />

general welfare <strong>of</strong> a campus, college, school, or department will thereby be<br />

promoted; and when such action has been taken, the Director may delegate<br />

appropriate powers to the assistants in charge <strong>of</strong> such branches.<br />

(d) The Director shall be appointed biennially by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees<br />

on the nomination <strong>of</strong> the President <strong>of</strong> the University. On the occasion <strong>of</strong><br />

each such election, the President shall have the advice <strong>of</strong> the Library Com.<br />

mittees <strong>of</strong> each <strong>of</strong> the Senates, to each <strong>of</strong> which for this purpose he shall<br />

appoint one member <strong>of</strong> the library staff from each campus.<br />

(e) Members <strong>of</strong> the University Libraries staff shall be appointed by the<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees on the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the Director <strong>of</strong> Libraries and<br />

nomination <strong>of</strong> the President, and may be given appropriate academic rank,<br />

In recommending the appointment <strong>of</strong> the librarian who is his representative<br />

at the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges and the Chicago Undergraduate Division,<br />

the Director <strong>of</strong> Libraries shall consult with the Vice-President in<br />

Charge <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Colleges and with the Executive Dean <strong>of</strong><br />

the Chicago Undergraduate Division.<br />

(f) The standing Library Committees <strong>of</strong> the three University Senates<br />

shall advise the Director regarding the apportionment <strong>of</strong> book funds and<br />

other matters pertaining to the University Libraries.<br />

UNIVERSITY PRESS<br />

Sec. 20. (a) The University Press is the publishing division <strong>of</strong> the University.<br />

It is charged with the responsibility for editing, designing, printing,<br />

and distributing the publications <strong>of</strong> the University.<br />

(b) The Director <strong>of</strong> the University Press shall be appointed biennially<br />

by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees on the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the President.<br />

(c) There shall be a University Press Board composed <strong>of</strong> the Dean oi<br />

the Graduate College, the Director <strong>of</strong> the Press, and five appointed members.<br />

Appointments to the Board shall be made by the President after consultation<br />

with the Director <strong>of</strong> the University Press and with the Dean <strong>of</strong> the Graduate<br />

College. The University Press Board shall advise the Director <strong>of</strong> the Press<br />

regarding policies and administration.<br />

DIVISION OF UNIVERSITY EXTENSION<br />

Sec. 21. (a) The Division <strong>of</strong> University Extension is the agency <strong>of</strong> the<br />

University responsible for the extension <strong>of</strong> the educational resources <strong>of</strong> the<br />

University, other than those provided by the Extension Service in Agriculture<br />

and Home Economics, to qualified persons who are not students in residence.<br />

In carrying out its mission, the Division may conduct extramural<br />

courses, short courses, correspondence courses, conferences, and other programs<br />

common to <strong>university</strong> extension divisions.<br />

(b) The Dean <strong>of</strong> the Division <strong>of</strong> University Extension shall be appointed<br />

biennially by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees on the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the President<br />

He shall be the principal administrative <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> the Division and shall he<br />

responsible to the President.<br />

(c) An Advisory Committee <strong>of</strong> seven members, appointed biennially by<br />

the President in consultation with the Dean, shall advise the Dean with<br />

respect to programs and administration.<br />

(d) The content and quality <strong>of</strong> instruction in extension courses is the<br />

responsibility <strong>of</strong> the departments concerned.
