CONTRACTS FOR ADDITION TO ABBOTT POWER PLANT<br />

(17) The Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical Plant Department and the Vice-President and<br />

Comptroller recommend award <strong>of</strong> contracts as follows for the construction <strong>of</strong><br />

the Abbott Power Plant Addition, Unit No. 6. The award in each case is to<br />

the lowest bidder.<br />

Installation <strong>of</strong> piping system (Division "7K")—Gallaher and<br />

Speck, Inc., 546 West Harrison Street, Chicago 7, Illinois $135 667<br />

Installation <strong>of</strong> electrical equipment (Division "7I") — Northern<br />

States Company, Inc., 33 North LaSalle Street, Chicago 2, Illinois.. 90 305<br />

Attached is a report from the Physical Plant Department listing all bids<br />

received, and a copy is being filed with the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the Board for record.<br />

Funds are available in the state appropriations to the University for capital<br />

improvements for the biennium 1957-59.<br />

I concur and recommend that the Comptroller and the Secretary <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Board be authorized to execute these contracts, subject to the release <strong>of</strong> funds<br />

by the Governor.<br />

CONTRACTS FOR EXTENSION OF UTILITIES DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM<br />

(18) The Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical Plant Department and the Vice-President and<br />

Comptroller recommend award <strong>of</strong> contracts as follows for additions to and<br />

extensions <strong>of</strong> the Utilities Distribution System at Urbana. The award in each<br />

case is to the lowest bidder:<br />

Construction <strong>of</strong> a subsurface electrical load distribution center vault,<br />

immediately west <strong>of</strong> the new Biology Building, as part <strong>of</strong> the<br />

campus electrical distribution system (Division "LL")—C. A.<br />

Petry & Sons, Inc., Champaign $ 45 880 00<br />

Installation <strong>of</strong> electrical equipment and cables in the vault—Square<br />

Deal Electrical Contracting, Inc., LaPorte, Indiana 209 135 28<br />

Construction <strong>of</strong> steam tunnels, duct runs, manholes, and load center<br />

(Division "MM")—Kuhne-Simmons Company, Inc., Champaign 343 281 00<br />

This will include construction <strong>of</strong> a tunnel from Wright Street<br />

and Armory Avenue to Mathews Avenue; a tunnel from the<br />

southwest corner <strong>of</strong> the Student-Staff Apartments on Goodwin<br />

Avenue north across Green Street and east along Green Street<br />

to the Physics Building; and construction <strong>of</strong> duct runs and manholes<br />

to serve the distribution center and load center.<br />

Installation <strong>of</strong> piping addition to steam distribution system (Division<br />

"NN") — Gallaher & Speck, Chicago....... 107 345 °°<br />

This will include the installation <strong>of</strong> piping in the new tunnels;<br />

a twelve-inch main in an existing tunnel from Sixth Street and<br />

Gregory Drive to Wright Street and Armory Avenue; a six-inch<br />

return main in the existing tunnel on Mathews Avenue; and a<br />

steam conduit line from the existing tunnel on Mathews Avenue<br />

to Davenport Hall.<br />

Funds are available in the state appropriations to the University for capital<br />

improvements for the biennium 1957-59.
