tive Dean, who shall be appointed biennially by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees on the<br />

nomination <strong>of</strong> the President. When a new Executive Dean is to be selected,<br />

the President shall have the advice <strong>of</strong> a committee drawn from the Senate <strong>of</strong><br />

the Chicago Undergraduate Division. The Executive Dean shall be a member<br />

<strong>of</strong> the faculties <strong>of</strong> the Division. In the absence <strong>of</strong> the President, he shall preside<br />

at meetings <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Undergraduate Division Senate. Administratively,<br />

he shall act within the lines <strong>of</strong> general policy set forth in these Statutes<br />

and in conformity with specific policies adopted by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees or<br />

transmitted to him by the President. He may make recommendations to the<br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees, through the President, on matters <strong>of</strong> general policy pertaining<br />

to the Division. He shall make such recommendations to the President<br />

and to the Chicago Undergraduate Division Senate as he may deem desirable<br />

for the proper conduct and development <strong>of</strong> the work <strong>of</strong> the Division. In consultation<br />

with the Advisory Council, he shall prepare the proposed annual and<br />

biennial budgets for the Chicago Undergraduate Division, and shall present<br />

these budgets to the President and the University Council for consideration<br />

and inclusion in the University budget. He shall recommend to the President<br />

suitable persons for appointment to positions in the Division.<br />

(d) There shall be an Advisory Council for the Executive Dean in<br />

charge <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Undergraduate Division composed <strong>of</strong> the associate<br />

deans, the Director <strong>of</strong> Physical Education, the Assistant Dean <strong>of</strong> the Division,<br />

the chief representative <strong>of</strong> the Vice-President and Comptroller <strong>of</strong> the University,<br />

the chief representative <strong>of</strong> the Director <strong>of</strong> the Physical Plant <strong>of</strong> the<br />

University, three members <strong>of</strong> the Senate <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Undergraduate Division<br />

elected by that Senate, and such other members as the Advisory Council<br />

shall from time to time recommend to the Executive Dean for inclusion. The<br />

Council shall have no legislative functions. It shall meet once in each academic<br />

semester and at such other times as the Executive Dean shall deem necessary.<br />

The Executive Dean shall be chairman at meetings <strong>of</strong> the Council.<br />

(e) The Division as organized is divided into Faculties as follows: the<br />

Faculty <strong>of</strong> Liberal Arts and Sciences (which includes course <strong>of</strong>ferings in Education),<br />

the Faculty <strong>of</strong> Commerce and Business Administration, the Faculty<br />

<strong>of</strong> Engineering (including courses in Art and Architecture), and the Faculty<br />

<strong>of</strong> Physical Education.<br />

(f) The Faculty shall have the powers and responsibilities outlined for<br />

colleges in Section 8. The addition <strong>of</strong> work in new fields and courses in<br />

areas currently included may be proposed by a Faculty <strong>of</strong> the Chicago Undergraduate<br />

Division after consultation with the appropriate committees <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Urbana-Champaign colleges <strong>of</strong>fering the same work. Such additions are subject<br />

to approval by the Chicago Undergraduate Division Senate and the Senate<br />

Coordinating Council.<br />

(g) Each Faculty shall have an Associate Dean or Director who shall<br />

have administrative charge <strong>of</strong> its affairs within the general framework <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Division. The Associate Dean or Director is the chief executive <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> his<br />

Faculty responsible to the Executive Dean and is the agent <strong>of</strong> his Faculty in<br />

the execution <strong>of</strong> educational policy. He shall be appointed in the manner prescribed<br />

in Section 9 <strong>of</strong> these Statutes, except that the recommendation shall<br />

be made to the President by the Executive Dean <strong>of</strong> the Division and after<br />

consultation with the Advisory Council and the Executive Committee <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Faculty concerned.<br />

(h) The Faculties may be divided into appropriate departments or divi-
