(e) Appointments to the academic staff <strong>of</strong> the Division or assignments<br />

from departmental faculties to extension teaching shall be made on the recommendation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Dean in consultation with the heads (or chairmen) <strong>of</strong><br />

:he departments concerned.<br />

SUMMER SESSION<br />

Sec. 22. (a) All courses for which credit toward a degree is given in the<br />

Summer Session shall be maintained at the same grade and standards as other<br />

„ork in the University, The character <strong>of</strong> the courses <strong>of</strong>fered therein shall be<br />

outlined by the respective departments and by the Dean <strong>of</strong> the Summer<br />

Session and shall be approved in the same manner as are other courses.<br />

(b) The Dean <strong>of</strong> the Summer Session shall be appointed biennially by<br />

he Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees, on the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the President <strong>of</strong> the University.<br />

He shall be the executive <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> the Summer Session and have<br />

'herein the same duties as the dean <strong>of</strong> a college.<br />

(c) An Executive Committee, appointed by the President, shall advise<br />

;he Dean in the administration <strong>of</strong> his <strong>of</strong>fice, including the formulation <strong>of</strong><br />

plans and the preparation <strong>of</strong> the budget.<br />

(d) Appointments to the academic staff <strong>of</strong> the Summer Session shall be<br />

made by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees on the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the President.<br />

Recommendations for appointment shall originate with the department and<br />

shall be approved by the dean, or by the director concerned, and by the Dean<br />

if the Summer Session.<br />

DIVISION OF SPECIAL SERVICES FOR WAR VETERANS<br />

Sec. 23. (a) The Division <strong>of</strong> Special Services for War Veterans is established<br />

to serve the needs <strong>of</strong> men and women in the undergraduate colleges<br />

.vho have been released from the armed services.<br />

(b) The Division shall be administered by a Director appointed bienlially<br />

by the Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees on the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the President.<br />

(c) The Division shall have an Executive Council appointed by the<br />

President after consultation with the Director and the Committee on Committees<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Urbana-Champaign Senate. The Director is ex <strong>of</strong>ficio a member<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Council. The Council shares with the Director the responsibilities<br />

if planning and administering the program <strong>of</strong> the Division.<br />

(d) The functions <strong>of</strong> the Division are: (1) to study the needs <strong>of</strong> the<br />

returning veteran; (2) to inform him <strong>of</strong> the services <strong>of</strong> the University and<br />

to advise him in matters <strong>of</strong> educational aim and adjustment; (3) to help him<br />

.ind among the curricula the one which will best satisfy his purpose, and to<br />

issist him in making such adjustments as he may desire and as are accepted<br />

iy the college or department in question.<br />

(e) All veterans, on entering the University, shall have the privilege <strong>of</strong><br />

applying for admission to any college or curriculum. They shall at all times<br />

lave free access to the counseling services <strong>of</strong> the Division <strong>of</strong> Special Services<br />

•and may come under its direct supervision under these conditions: (1) if<br />

they so elect at the time <strong>of</strong> their first registration, and if they are accepted<br />

ty the Division; (2) when, according to regular University procedure, they<br />

voluntarily transfer to the Division from any school or college.<br />

(f) For all students enrolled under its administration the Division is empowered<br />

to arrange programs <strong>of</strong> study leading to undergraduate degrees, and
