COURSE OBJECTIVES
The goal of this course is to reveal the close connection that exists between the literary text and the socio-cultural milieu of the various geographical
areas from Africa and the Caribbean; and, to help develop the necessary critical tools and terminology on postcolonial theory that will help
students approach and analyze literary works by African and Caribbean authors.
COURSE EVALUATION
Students’ final grade will depend on the quality and performance/accomplishment of the following:
a) attendance and participation (20%)**
b) home assignments (20%)
c) oral presentation (30%)
d) final paper/exam (30%)
** If a student misses more than one week of class (3 hours), this percentage will not be applied to his/her final grade and s/he will need to take
a final exam.
PROGRAM
The course will be divided into four sections:
1. General Introduction to the Course, and the origins and development of Postcolonial Studies.
2. Reading and analysis of theory and literary texts by authors from West, East and Southern Africa
3. Reading and analysis of theory and literary texts by authors from different regions of the Caribbean: Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua,
Dominica, St. Lucia
4. A general revision and discussion of the main topics dealt with throughout the course.
A BASIC BIBLIOGRAPHY will be provided in class.
*** IMPORTANT: All students interested in taking up this course, must go to the assigned classroom the first day of class.

OBJETIVOS
Adquirir una competencia comunicativa básica a través del aprendizaje de unos contenidos lingüístico-funcionales, pragmático, sociolingüísticos,
léxicos, gramaticales y sintácticos, siempre teniendo el cuenta el Marco de Referencia del EEES (Nivel A1).
Adquirir una competencia cultural básica a través del análisis y el estudio de los principales aspectos de la situación italiana reciente y
actual.
PLAN DE TRABAJO
Se utilizará principalmente y como instrumento en la clase el manual propuesto; además los alumnos contarán con material adicional que
consistirá fundamentalmente en fotocopias de los aspectos gramaticales más relevantes y sus correspondientes ejercicios prácticos.
