Ce sont des plantes herbacées (quelques arbustes et lianes), annuelles ou pérennes, rhizomateuses ou tubéreuses, elles poussent dans les régions froides à tropicales, avec un maximum dans les régions tempérées de l'hémisphère nord [ ] Classification classique: Règne Sous-règne Division Classe Sous-classe ordrd Famille Plantae Tracheobionta Magnoliophyta Magnoliopsida Magnoliidae Ranunculaces Ranunculaceae I-2-3-Espèce Ranunculus cortusifolius: I-2-3-1-Description de l'espèce : Cette espèce est endémique aux iles Madère, Açores et Canaries, il est facile de l'identifier par ses grandes et lumineuses fleurs jaunes, présentes de mars à juin et pouvant atteindre 5 centimètres de diamètre formant de grandes influorescences de corymbes. Ranunculus ou Renoncule comme elle est appelée populairement, est une plante herbacée qui peut atteindre jusqu'à 1mètre de hauteur.
