Quand Michou n’est plus d’humeur à
discuter, il chantonne au volant en fixant
l’horizon. Car les choses deviennent parfois
émotionnelles à l’intérieur du taxi
dans lequel il conduit régulièrement, à
travers Lausanne, trois femmes d’expérience
à leurs rendez-vous nocturnes.
Brigitte, un verre à la main, aimerait
aussi voir son chauffeur à l’extérieur du
taxi. Michou refuse, mais finit par se lier
à elle au travers d’un occasionnel trafic
de pilules en tous genres. Il lui est
plus difficile de résister à la charmante
Pascaline lorsque celle-ci lui demande
de l’argent pour le casino. Il laisse libre
cours à sa colère contre la bourgeoisie,
klaxonnant à tue-tête lors de ses
virées avec Jacqueline dans les quartiers
riches de la ville. A l’aide d’un dispositif
simple dans lequel la caméra ne
s’aventure pas au-delà du capot du taxi,
Louise Carrin capte le petit théâtre de
ces rencontres nocturnes entre âmes
esseulées. La mélancolie de Night on
Earth de Jim Jarmusch résonne doucement
dans la poésie singulière – qui
alterne moments amusants et instants
chargés de tension – émanant de Les
papillons noirs.
Wenn Michou nicht mehr reden mag,
summt er am Steuer vor sich hin. Denn
manchmal wird es emotional im Taxi,
in dem er regelmässig drei gestandene
Frauen auf ihren nächtlichen Wegen
rund um Lausanne fährt. Brigitte, mit
einem Drink in der Hand, würde ihren
Chauffeur auch gern einmal ausserhalb
des Taxis treffen. Michou lehnt ab,
lässt sich aber, durch den gelegentlichen
Deal mit Tabletten, dennoch an
sie binden. Schwerer fällt es ihm bei der
charmanten Pascaline zu widerstehen,
wenn sie ihn um Geld für das Casino
bittet. Seiner Wut gegen die Bourgeoisie
lässt er dann, laut hupend, auf den
Fahrten durch die reichen Stadtviertel
mit Jacqueline freien Lauf. Mit einem
klaren Dispositiv, das die Kamera nicht
weiter als bis zur Kühlerhaube Abstand
nehmen lässt, vermag Louise Carrin ein
Kammerspiel der nächtlichen Begegnungen
zwischen einsamen Seelen
einzufangen. Die Melancholie von Jim
Jarmuschs Night on Earth schwingt
leise in der seltsamen Poesie mit, die
zwischen den vergnüglichen und den
spannungsgeladenen Momenten in Les
papillons noirs spürbar wird.
When Michou no longer feels like talking,
he hums to himself at the wheel.
Because sometimes things get emotional
in the taxi in which he regularly drives
three experienced women in their nightly
movements around Lausanne. Brigitte,
with a drink in hand, would also like to
meet her driver outside of the taxi some
time. Michou refuses, but allows himself
to become attached to her through
occasional deals involving tablets. It is
harder for him to resist the charming
Pascaline when she asks him for money
for the casino. He gives free rein to his
rage against the bourgeoisie by honking
loudly on his journeys through rich
neighbourhoods with Jacqueline. With a
clear film device that the camera cannot
be further away than the car’s radiator
bonnet, Louise Carrin is able to capture a
chamber piece of nocturnal encounters
between lonely souls. The melancholy of
Jim Jarmusch’s Night on Earth vibrates
quietly with the strange poetry that is felt
between fun and tense moments in Les
papillons noirs.
