Martins

Martins est un enfant handicapé qui
dépendra toujours de ses parents.
Ces derniers parlent de leur vie et de
Martins, en partageant leurs peurs et
leurs espoirs pour l’avenir de leur fils.
Nous écoutons tout en observant les
images paisibles d’un album de famille
et les séquences d’une journée ordinaire
en sa compagnie. «Il y a très longtemps,
avant que je ne décide de devenir réalisatrice,
je savais que je ne ferai jamais
de film sur des personnes comme
Martins. C’est-à-dire, sur des enfants
ou des adultes ayant des besoins particuliers.
Car ce serait injuste de ma part,
ce serait un comportement spéculatif.
Puis j’ai appris à connaître Martins et
ses parents et j’ai compris à quel point
ils m’aident à affronter la vie (mes problèmes
n’en sont pas; si les parents de
Martins peuvent affronter leurs soucis
quotidiens, que sont mes problèmes
comparés aux leurs Rien). Si j’ai fait
un film sur eux, c’est donc pour aider
d’autres personne à affronter leur vie.
Par ailleurs, j’ai toujours pensé que l’idée
d’un film partait avant tout d’une idée
sur la forme. Pourtant, cela n’a pas été
le cas. J’ai sciemment refusé de m’exprimer
au travers de la forme du film. Je
n’apparais pas dans ce film. Seuls mes
sentiments sont présents.» (LP)
Martins ist ein behindertes Kind, das
immer von seinen Eltern abhängig sein
wird. Sie erzählen von ihrem Leben
und von Martins, teilen ihre Ängste und
Hoffnungen für die Zukunft mit. Wir
hören zu und sehen Bilder aus dem
Familienalbum und Sequenzen aus
einem normalen Tag mit ihm. «Vor sehr
langer Zeit, noch bevor ich beschloss,
Regisseurin zu werden, wusste ich,
dass ich nie Filme über Menschen wie
Martins machen werde. Damit meine
ich Filme über Kinder oder Erwachsene
mit besonderen Bedürfnissen. Weil es
unfair wäre und ein spekulatives Verhalten
beinhalten würde. Doch dann lernte
ich Martins und seine Eltern kennen
und verstand, wie sehr sie mir helfen,
das Leben zu meistern (keines meiner
Probleme ist ein Problem – wenn es
Martins› Eltern schaffen, ihre täglichen
Sorgen zu bewältigen – was habe ich
dann zu bewältigen Nichts). Wenn ich
also einen Film über sie drehen würde,
könnten sie auch anderen dabei helfen,
mit dem Leben klarzukommen. Ich
dachte auch immer, dass die Idee für
einen Film zuerst eine Idee der Form
ist. So war es aber nicht. Ich habe jegliche
Art des Selbstausdrucks mittels
dieser Filmform abgelehnt. Ich bin in
nicht anwesend. Nur meine Gefühle sind
drin.» (LP)
Martins is a handicapped child who will
always depend on his parents. They tell
us about their life and about Martins,
sharing their fears and hopes for his
future. We listen while watching still
images from the family photo album and
sequences of an ordinary day with him.
“Very long ago, long before I decided to
become a film director, I knew I will never
make films about people like Martins.
Meaning that I will never make films
about children or grown-ups with special
needs. Because it would be unfair from
my side, it would be speculative behavior.
But then I got to know Martins and his
parents and I understood how much they
are helping me to cope with life (none
of my problems is a problem; if Martins’
Mum and Dad can cope with their everyday
concerns then what is it that I have
to deal with compared to that In fact, it
is nothing). And so if I made a film about
them, they could help others to cope
with life as well. Besides, I have always
thought that the idea for a film initially
is an idea about the form. However,
this was not the case. I conscientiously
refused any self-expression through the
form of the film. I am not present in this
film. Only my feelings are there.” (LP)
