« La musique a rarement été aussi extravagante
» (MK), ou l’art de jouer de la
musique avec des feuilles d’arbres. Il y a
Vera, l’ancienne détective privée mariée
dans son plus jeune âge, Pera, le paysan
expert et Josip, l’inventeur d’instruments
tentant d’élucider le mystère de la feuille
parfaite. Des personnages insolites et
charmants qui nous entraînent dans
la folie créative serbe, dans un univers
musical traditionnel insoupçonnable, qui
semble hélas voué à lentement disparaître.
Le film s’ouvre sur une déambulation
de Vera dans ce qui paraît être un
lieu dédié à la musique, où chaque studio
renferme un style différent ; sur une
porte l’inscription : « Mort au capitalisme,
liberté au peuple ». Un regard observationnel
qui participe et échange, au
cours de moments de ravissante complicité
entre l’équipe de tournage – en
particulier le preneur de son – et les protagonistes.
Un film réjouissant, plein de
poésie et de grâce, qui se déroule dans
un temps suspendu, ou plutôt hors du
temps, hors du monde, à l’ombre de la
puissance d’évasion de la musique.

(MK), oder die Kunst, mit den Blättern
der Bäume Musik zu machen. Da sind
Vera, die jung verheiratete, ehemalige
Privatdetektivin, Pera, der fachkundige
Landwirt, und Josip, der Erfinder von
Musikinstrumenten, der das Geheimnis
des perfekten Blattes zu lüften sucht.
Ungewöhnliche, charmante Figuren, die
uns in den Strudel der serbischen Kreativität
ziehen, eine ungeahnte Welt der
traditionellen Musik, die dem langsamen
Verschwinden geweiht zu sein scheint.
Der Film beginnt mit einem Spaziergang
Veras durch einen Ort, der mit Musik
zu tun haben muss, wo jedes Studio
einen anderen Stil hat. Über einer der
Türen ist «Tod dem Kapitalismus, Freiheit
dem Volk» zu lesen. Ein beobachtender
Blick, der teilnimmt und austauscht in
Augenblicken der hinreissenden Vertrautheit
zwischen dem Filmteam – insbesondere
dem Tonmeister – und den
Hauptdarstellern. Ein Film voller Poesie
und Anmut, der Freude macht und dort
spielt, wo die Zeit innehält, oder vielmehr
abseits der Zeit, abseits der Welt, im
Schatten der Ausbruchskraft der Musik.
“Music has rarely been so offbeat” (MK),
or the art of playing music with tree
leaves. We encounter Vera, a former private
detective who married at a tender
age, Pera, an expert farmer, and Josip,
an inventor of instruments attempting
to uncover the mystery of the perfect
leaf. These eccentric and charming
characters draw us into the creative
extravagance of Serbia, into an unimaginable
traditional music universe, which
sadly seems destined to slowly disappear.
The film opens with Vera wandering
around what appears to be a place
dedicated to music, where each studio
contains a different style; the inscription
on the door reads “Death to capitalism,
liberty to the people”. An observational
vision that participates and exchanges
through moments of wonderful complicity
between the film crew – the sound
engineer, in particular – and the protagonists.
A gratifying film, full of poetry and
grace, which takes place as if frozen in
time, or rather out of time, outside the
world, in the shade of the escapist power
of music.
