Au printemps 2012, une troupe d’opéra
folklorique de onze acteurs arrive dans
la ville de Shibantan Town à Chengdu, la
capitale de la province du Sichuan. Zhao
Li dirige la troupe depuis six ans déjà.
Dans un hangar loué, ils ont monté trois
heures de spectacles traditionnels et
présentent des pièces différentes tous
les jours. Dandan, âgée de seize ans,
belle, talentueuse, est l’actrice la plus
remarquable de la troupe. Elle est familière
de ce milieu, puisque les membres
de sa famille se déplaçaient aussi en
tant qu’interprètes d’opéra traditionnel.
Son public, cependant, se limite essentiellement
aux personnes âgées de
la ville qui, jour après jour, assistent à
tous les spectacles. Mais Dandan veut
devenir une star. Elle aspire à quelque
chose de plus grand: clips vidéos internet,
musique pop, télévision. Les rêves
de Dandan créent des dissonnances
au sein de sa famille, si bien qu’un jour,
elle décide de suivre sa propre voie.
Actress est un conte sur une Chine traditionnelle
et moderne à la fois – sur un
pays embrassant le capitalisme et qui
s’efforce de trouver une nouvelle identité.
Le réalisateur Zhao Gang parvient
à capturer un moment de transition historique,
présenté à travers les angoisses
d’une jeune fille.
Im Frühling 2012 kommt eine Volksopertruppe
in der Stadt Shibantan Town
in Chengdu, der Provinzhauptstadt von
Sichuan, an. Zhao Li leitet die Truppe
bereits seit sechs Jahren. In einer
gemieteten Bretterbude bieten sie eine
dreistündige traditionelle Aufführung mit
täglich wechselnden Stücken dar. Die
schöne und talentierte sechszehnjährige
Dandan ist die vielversprechendste
Schauspielerin der Truppe. Durch ihre
Familie, die ebenfalls als Darsteller in
traditionellen Opern herumgereist ist,
ist sie schon früh mit der Schauspielerei
in Kontakt gekommen. Ihr Publikum
besteht jedoch vorwiegend aus älteren
Bewohnern der Stadt, die jeden Tag
zu jeder Aufführung kommen. Doch
Dandan möchte ein Star sein. Sie hat
Grösseres vor: Internetclips, Popmusik-
Videos, TV. Dandans Träume schaffen
eine Gegensätzlichkeit innerhalb der
Familie und eines Tages beschliesst sie,
ihren eigenen Weg zu gehen. Actress
erzählt davon, wie Tradition und Moderne
im heutigen China koexistieren, während
sich das Land dem Kapitalismus zuwendet
und um eine neue Identität ringt.
Regisseur Gang Zhao ist es gelungen,
einen Augenblick des historischen Übergangs
einzufangen, dargestellt durch die
Ängste eines jungen Mädchens.
In the spring of 2012, a folk opera troupe
of eleven actors arrived in the town of
Shibantan Town in Chengdu, the provincial
capital of Sichuan. Zhao Li has
already been leading the troupe for
six years. In a rented shed, they put on
three hours of traditional performances,
performing different plays every day.
Dandan, sixteen years old, beautiful,
talented, is the most prominent actress
in the troupe. She has an acting background,
since her family also used to
travel around as performers staging
traditional opera. Her audience, though,
is mostly limited to elderly members of
the town who, day after day, attend every
show. But Dandan wants to be a star.
She aims at something bigger: internet
clips, pop music videos, TV. Dandan’s
dreams create a contrast inside the family,
so one day she decides to go her own
way. Actress is a tale of how tradition
and modernity coexist in modern China
while the country embraces capitalism
and struggles to find a new identity.
Director Gang Zhao manages to capture
a moment of historical transition shown
through the anxieties of a young girl.
