My Father is Still a Communist –
Intimate Secrets to be Published
contemporain.
Zehn Jahre einer Liebesbeziehung, die
auf mehreren Kassetten aufgenommen
und wie Liebesbriefe geschickt
wurden: In dieser Form vermittelt der Filmemacher
die Bekenntnisse und Aussagen
zwischen seiner Mutter Maream
Hmadeh und seinem Vater Raschid
Ghossein. Nach ihrer Heirat während
des Bürgerkrieges wurden sie durch die
Auslandsaufenthalte Raschids getrennt,
der dort auf Arbeitssuche war. Während
der langen Abwesenheiten seines Vaters
stellte sich der kleine Ahmed einen
Kriegshelden vor, der für die kommunistische
Partei kämpfte. Der Film beginnt
mit bei einer Hochzeit aufgenommenen,
die Spuren der Zeit tragenden Amateurbildern,
die den Betrachter unmittelbar in
die bewegten Seiten eines Familienalbums
ziehen. Der mündliche Bericht reiht
sich an diese Bilder aus der Vergangenheit
und der Gegenwart und lässt auf
diese Weise einen einzigartigen Raum
entstehen, in dem das Wort aus dem
Tagebuch kollektives Gedächtnis wird.
Der Film wurde für die Sharjah Art Foundation
gedreht, was den experimentellen,
an der Schnittstelle zwischen Kino und
zeitgenössischer Kunst angesiedelten
Ansatz noch unterstreicht.
Through ten years of a love relationship
recorded on several audio tapes
and sent like love letters, the filmmaker
shares the confessions and declarations
made by his mother, Maream Hmadeh,
to his father, Rashid Ghossein. Married
during the civil war years, they were then
separated by Rashid’s time abroad looking
for work. During his father’s long
absences, little Ahmad pictured him as
a war hero fighting for the Communist
Party. The film opens with amateur images
recorded during a wedding, inevitably
bearing the signs of the times, which
immediately plunges the audience into
the moving pages of a family album. The
oral account is juxtaposed with these
images from the past and with contemporary
images, thus creating a unique
space where the words of an intimate
diary become a collective memory.
The film was made at the request of the
Sharjah Art Foundation, emphasising
its experimental approach, which lies at
the crossroads of cinema and contemporary
art.
