Il suffit parfois de prendre le temps
d’une pause cigarette. De s’évader des
problèmes du quotidien. Une toute petite
pause. De faire comme si, pour une
fois, le monde pouvait s’arrêter de tourner,
pour nous permettre de reprendre
notre souffle. Beirut Blend rassemble
différentes voix. Tourné dans un noir et
blanc doux mais précis, ce film montre
un monde plongé une fois de trop dans
la guerre. Avec des scènes tournée principalement
au coin d’un bar ou dans des
jardins, le réalisateur s’insère au sein
des discussions amicales de personnes
évoquant l’actualité mondiale – dont le
fameux printemps arabe – et d’autres
questions de politique internationale.
Certaines élaborent de fascinantes
théories du complot tandis que d’autres
rêvent de partir, ne serait-ce que pour
quelque temps. Beirut Blend offre
quelque chose de rare : dépeindre précisément
une situation historique tout en
écoutant ce que les gens ont à dire. Ces
bribes de paix deviennent des signes
d’espoir. L’espoir qu’il puisse encore
exister un monde dans lequel fumer ou
discuter ne permette pas seulement de
s’évader de la guerre mais devienne la
normalité du quotidien, sans craindre un
nouveau conflit.

Eine Pause von den Kümmernissen
des Alltags. Nur eine kleine
Pause. So tun, als könne man die Welt
kurz anhalten, um wieder durchzuatmen.
In Beirut Blend vermischen sich unterschiedliche
Stimmen. Der in weichem
und doch präzisem Schwarz-Weiss
gedrehte Film ist ein Fragment einer
Welt, die einmal zu oft von einem Krieg
eingeholt wurde. Der Regisseur hat
zumeist in Winkeln von Bars oder Gärten
gefilmt und schliesst sich den Gesprächen
von Menschen an, die über die
Ereignisse im Zusammenhang mit dem
sogenannten Arabischen Frühling und
anderen Themen der Weltpolitik sprechen.
Einige ergehen sich in faszinierenden
Verschwörungstheorien, während
andere davon träumen, wegzugehen
– und sei es nur für kurze Zeit. Beirut
Blend gelingt diese schwierigste aller
Übungen: das Porträt einer historisch
akkurat nachgezeichneten Situation,
während gleichzeitig angehört wird, was
die Leute zu sagen haben. Diese kleinen
Fragmente des Friedens werden somit
zu Hoffnungszeichen. Hoffnung, dass es
immer noch eine Chance für eine Welt
gibt, in der Rauchen oder Plaudern nicht
nur eine kleine Pause, sondern die Normalität
in einem Alltag ohne Angst vor
einem erneuten Krieg sind.
Sometimes a cigarette break is all it
takes. A break from the troubles of
daily life. Just a little break. Pretending
that for once the world could stop spinning
allowing us to catch our breath
again. Beirut Blend is a film that merges
together different voices. Shot in a soft
but precise black and white, the film is
a fragment of a world that has been
caught up one too many times in wars.
Filmed mostly in the corners of bar or
gardens, the director joins the friendly
chat of people who talk about what is
going on in the world with the so-called
Arab Spring and other issues of world
politics. Some of them spin fascinating
conspiracy theories while others dream
of going away, if only for a short period
of time. Beirut Blend manages that most
difficult thing: to portrait an historically
accurate situation while listening to what
the people have to say. These little fragments
of peace become therefore the
signs of hope. Hope that there can maybe
still be the chance for a world where
smoking or chatting does not have to be
only a small break but the normalcy of a
daily life without the fear of another war.
