Sioma a dix-huit ans. Il ne va pas à
l’école. Souffrant de graves problèmes
de santé, il dépend essentiellement de
sa sœur Nastea, de deux ans sa cadette.
Nastea, elle, va à l’école, mais ses notes
ne sont malheureusement pas brillantes.
Ils s’efforcent chaque jour de surmonter
les difficultés d’une vie très rude. Ce
n’est pas facile de grandir dans une
famille pauvre, d’autant plus quand vos
parents sont tous deux des alcooliques
invétérés qui vous battent sans raison.
Sioma aimerait rendre à son père certaines
des corrections qu’il reçoit quotidiennement,
tandis que Nastea rêve de
partir. Alors qu’ils surveillent les quelques
animaux qu’ils possèdent dans la ferme
familiale, ils font chaque jour des projets
pour une vie meilleure. Le réalisateur
John Donica compose un poème pictural
d’observation sur les espoirs de deux
adolescents pris dans une situation qui
semble sans issue. Parvenant à capter la
beauté dérangeante de deux existences
perdues à la lisière de la forêt, Donica
évite la tentation du désarroi et célèbre
la dignité de deux êtres humains à qui il
ne reste rien d’autre que l’espoir.
Sioma ist 18 Jahre alt. Er geht nicht
zur Schule. Wegen seiner schweren
Gesundheitsprobleme ist er auf die Hilfe
seiner zwei Jahre jüngeren Schwester
Nastea angewiesen. Nastea geht zur
Schule, schreibt aber keine guten Noten.
Tag für Tag kämpfen sie sich durch die
Schwierigkeiten ihrer harten Lebensbedingungen.
In einer armen Familie aufzuwachsen
ist nicht einfach. Und mit zwei
hoffnungslosen Alkoholikern als Eltern,
die grundlos zuschlagen, ist es noch
schwieriger. Sioma würde seinem Vater
gerne einen Teil der Prügel zurückgeben,
die er täglich bezieht, und Nastea
träumt davon, wegzugehen. Während sie
auf die wenigen Tiere ihres Bauernhofs
aufpassen, schmieden sie Pläne für ein
besseres Leben. Regisseur John Donica
komponiert ein bildliches und beobachtendes
Gedicht über die Hoffnungen
zweier junger Menschen, die in einer
scheinbar ausweglosen Situation gefangen
sind. Donica gelingt es, die verstörende
Schönheit von zwei, am Rande
des Waldes gestrandeten Leben zu
erfassen, und dem Gefühl der Verzweiflung
zu widerstehen, um stattdessen die
Würde zweier Menschen zu zelebrieren,
denen nichts ausser der Hoffnung bleibt.

attend school. Suffering for some serious
health issues, he depends mostly
on his sister Nastea who is two years
younger than him. Nastea goes to school
but her grades unfortunately are not brilliant
at all. Each day they try to struggle
through the difficulties of a very harsh
life. Growing up in a poor family is not
easy. And if your parents are both hopeless
alcoholics who beat you for no reason,
it is even more difficult. Sioma would
like to give his dad some of the beatings
back that he takes on a daily basis, while
Nastea dreams of going away. Watching
the few animals they have on the family
farm, they make plans every day
for a better life. Director John Donica
composes a pictorial and observational
poem about the hopes of two young
people caught in a situation that seems
to offer no way out. Managing to capture
the disturbing beauty of two lives lost at
the edge of the forest, Donica avoids the
temptation of despair and celebrates the
dignity of two human beings who have
nothing else left but hope.
