La séquence d’ouverture nous plonge
dans un véritable maelström sonore et
visuel, mix cradingue d’infrabasses, de
rythmiques puissantes et d’un chant
hargneux qui électrise une foule juvénile
(et masculine) venue onduler dans cette
rue cairote où se produit Mahragan. Un
groupe de musique chaabi qui dynamite
la musique égyptienne : revisiter
les chants du poète soufi Naqshbandi,
ceux de Badei Kheiry, contemporain de
la révolution égyptienne de 1919, entre
deux couplets évocateurs de la réalité
égyptienne, ici et maintenant. C’est le
cœur des slams insoumis du jeune trio
qui chantait il n’y a pas si longtemps, « la
jeunesse est foutue ». Omar El Shamy
capte avec brio quelques moments de
la vie de ces tout jeunes musiciens qui
se hissent des profondeurs de la société
égyptienne avec une incroyable énergie.
Certes, Mahragan assure plus souvent
l’animation des mariages parfois chics
(une scène le montre sans fard) que des
concerts endiablés dans les rues de la
capitale égyptienne. Mais les musiciens
accompagnent la « révolution » en cours
avec l’inébranlable certitude que le pouvoir
des pères vacille et qu’ils porteront
joyeusement l’estocade finale.
Die Eröffnungssequenz taucht uns in
einen wahren Malstrom aus Klängen und
Bildern, einen fetten Infrabass-Mix mit
heftigen Rhythmen und rachsüchtigem
Gesang, der die jugendliche (und männliche)
Menge unter Strom setzt, die sich
in Kairo in der Strasse drängt, wo Mahragan
auftritt. Eine Chaabi-Musikgruppe,
die die ägyptische Musik sprengt:
zwischen zwei Strophen über die ägyptische
Realität des Heute ein Ausflug zu
den Gesängen des sufistischen Poeten
Naqshbandi oder Badei Kheiry, der noch
die ägyptische Revolution von 1919 erlebt
hatte. Hier schlägt das Herz der aufsässigen
Slams des jungen Trios, das noch
vor nicht allzu langer Zeit «die Jugend
ist erledigt» sang. Omar El Shamy fängt
meisterhaft einige Momente des Lebens
dieser sehr jungen Musiker ein, die
sich mit unglaublicher Energie aus den
Tiefen der ägyptischen Gesellschaft
hochziehen. Mahragan tritt häufiger bei
manchmal teuren Hochzeiten (wie eine
Szene unverblümt zeigt), als bei wilden
Strassenkonzerten in Ägyptens Hauptstadt
auf. Doch die Musiker begleiten die
aktuelle «Revolution» mit der unerschütterlichen
Gewissheit, dass die Macht der
Väter bereits wankt und sie ihr fröhlich
den Todesstoss versetzen werden.
From the opening sequence, we are
immersed in a genuine maelstrom of
sound and image, a grungy mix of infrabass,
powerful rhythm sections and a
snarling voice that galvanises the young
(and male) crowd that has come to
sway along in this Cairo street where
Mahragan is playing. A Chaabi group
who are taking Egyptian music by storm,
they revisit the songs of the Sufi poet
Naqshbandi and those of Badei Kheiry,
a contemporary of the 1919 Egyptian
Revolution, between two verses that are
evocative of Egyptian life here and now.
This is the heart of the rebellious slams
by this young trio who, not so long ago,
were singing “young people are written
off”. With great panache, Omar El Shamy
captures moments in the lives of these
very young musicians pulling themselves
up from the depths of Egyptian society
with incredible energy. Mahragan are
admittedly more often found providing
entertainment at sometimes chic weddings
(one scene shows this openly)
than giving frenzied concerts in the
streets of the Egyptian capital. Yet the
musicians have become part of the
ongoing “revolution”, unwavering in their
certainty that the power of the elders is
shaky and that they will gleefully deliver
the final blow.
