Pendant la nuit constitue un geste rare.
Dès l’ouverture, quelque chose de très
intime nous est révélé. Une séance
de manucure, mise en scène d’un dialogue
père/fille, le premier sommant la
seconde de renoncer aux rêves pour la
« réalité », celle des hommes bien-sûr.
De cette confrontation originelle, Noha
Al Madaawy tisse un film subtil, surréel
et prenant qui transfigure le thème de
la libération apportée par la « révolution »
pour affirmer simplement que celle-ci
se poursuivra tant que la part féminine
du corps social restera à l’écart de sa
dynamique libératrice. La mariée qui
marche le long d’une artère encombrée
de circulation a rendez-vous avec son
destin. Sa tête est peuplée de fragments
du théâtre d’ombres du passé – des
extraits du cinéma égyptien old school,
pendant que la bacchanale des scooters
annonce le mouvement qui emporte
toute une société vers… vers quoi
L’énergie de Stravinsky se fracasse
contre le silence des intégristes qui ont
envahi Tahrir et sont canardés par un
pistolet à eau : attentat dérisoire, grinçant
et « honteux » qui sape le patriarcat
sur ses fondements mêmes.
Pendant la nuit ist eine Geste mit Seltenheitswert.
Ab den ersten Bildern
wird etwas sehr Intimes offenbart. Eine
Maniküre, ein inszenierter Vater-Tochter-Dialog,
der Vater drängt die Tochter,
für die Realität – natürlich die der
Männer – auf ihre Träume zu verzichten.
Aus dieser ursprünglichen Konfrontation
webt Noha Al Madaawy einen subtilen,
surrealen und packenden Film, eine
Transfiguration der von der «Revolution»
ausgelösten Thematik der Freiheit,
der darauf hinweist, dass dies weitergehen
wird, so lange der weibliche Teil
des Sozialgefüges von dieser Dynamik
ausgeschlossen bleibt. Die Braut geht
an einer dicht befahrenen Strasse, sie
hat eine Verabredung mit ihrem Schicksal.
Durch den Kopf gehen ihr Fragmente
des Schauspiels von Schatten
der Vergangenheit - Szenen aus dem
ägyptischen Kino der ‘Old school’, während
die Motorroller schwarmweise die
Bewegung ankündigen, die eine ganz
Gesellschaft ziehen wird in Richtung…
in welche Richtung Stravinskys Energie
zerschellt am Schweigen der Integristen,
die Tahrir besetzt haben und mit einer
Wasserpistole beschossen werden: ein
lächerliches, pikantes und «beschämendes»
Attentat, das das Patriarchat in
seinen Grundfesten erschüttert.
Pendant la nuit is a rare gesture.
Something very intimate is revealed to
us from the opening scene. A manicure,
the ‘mise-en-scène’ of a conversation
between father and daughter, the former
ordering the latter to give up her dreams
for «reality», the one imposed by men,
of course. Noha Al Madaawy weaves a
subtle, surreal and captivating film from
this unique confrontation, exalting the
theme of freedom that the “revolution”
brought with it, in order to simply affirm
that this will continue only as long as
the feminine side of the social fabric is
not allowed to participate in the liberating
process. The bride who walks along
a main road blocked by traffic is meeting
her destiny. Her head is inhabited
by fragments of shadow play from the
past – taken from old-school Egyptian
cinema, while the bacchanal of scooters
heralds the movement that is bringing an
entire society towards… what The vigour
of Stravinsky smashes the silence of
the fundamentalists who invaded Tahrir
and are shot with a water pistol: a ridiculous,
grating and “shameful” attack that
undermines the patriarchy to its very
foundations.
