THE PLACE OF PERFTORAN IN ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY
The necessity to identify echocontrast agent, as much as possible compatible with the human body, which
would be optimal in the physicochemical properties, the price factor and the quality of visualization is one of the
most important problems in echocardiography.
Research aims to improve existing methods of echocardiographic imaging by introducing perfluorocarbon as a
contrast agent, to develop a technique of obtaining echocontrast images, as a result to improve visualization of
anatomical structures of the heart.
Among the ultrasound contrast agents traditionally on the first place are gas containing substances that
provide a dispersion of ultrasound in different directions. Some requirements for these drugs are: after the
administration of contrast agent into a peripheral vein, it must goes through the vessels of the pulmonary
circulation; the particle size shouldn‘t exceed 8 mm, this is diameter of the pulmonary capillary; life expectancy of
contrast microbubbles should be correlated with the time of passage of blood through the body. Following the
comparative characteristics of existing echocontrast agents was decided to try Perftoran. In the operating room
during coronary angiography echocardiography was performed. Just at the time of Perftoran introduction in basal
segment of the interventricular septum was showed marked contrast enhancement effect of the myocardium in a
form of bright echopositive glow in the fragment of interventricular septum.
Perftoran can be used in improving the quality of echocardiographic images. Results demonstrate the
effectiveness of technology for contrasting of coronary artery. The method is a valuable addition to the standard
echocardiographic examination.
