OXYPYRIDINE SUCCINATE<br />

It is known, that 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-oxypyridine succinate (mexidol) is potent synthetic antioxidant. The<br />

drug is 3-oxypyridine derivative containing succinate. It protects lipids of cell membranes against lipid peroxidation<br />

and has antihypoxic properties, anxiolytic, nootropic and neuroprotective effects. However a question about<br />

molecular-biological mechanism of mexidol‘s action on the cell, for example red blood cell (RBC), under the<br />

pathological conditions remains not decided. Research purpose is to study the influence of 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-<br />

oxypyridine succinate (mexidol) on RBC‘s cytoskeleton and membrane asymmetry. RBC were obtained from intact<br />

albino male rats by the standard procedure of heart punction under the general anesthesia. Mexidol was added to<br />

test-systems in a concentration corresponded to the dose of 100 mg/kg in experiments upon animals. A design of<br />

experiment includes the incubation of RBC in 0,45% solution of sodium chloride with mexidol or without the drug<br />

(control) at 37 o C for 2 hours. The expression of phosphatidylserine on the external surface of cell membrane was<br />

detected by the cytofluorimetric method. Proteins of RBC stroma were purified and undergone electrophoresis,<br />

densitometry and quantitative analysis. It is shown that mexidol decreases the count of RBC with altered<br />

membrane phospholipid asymmetry as compared to control. Electrophoregram of proteins of RBC cytoskeleton is<br />

characterized by the formation of typical bands both in the control and in the samples with investigated preparation.<br />

But densitometry demonstrates some distinguishes between these groups concerning spectrin-alpha, spectrinbeta,<br />

and ankyrin. The data obtained shows that under the conditions of hypoosmolarity mexidol eliminates the<br />

disorders of RBC membrane‘s asymmetry and modifies spectrin-actin complex and vertical membranecytoskeleton<br />

bonds mediated by ankyrin.<br />

THE INFLUENCE OF COMBINED ANTIOXIDANT PREPARATION ON THE AUTONOMIC NERVE<br />

REGULATION IN ELDERLY PATIENTS DURING THEIR ADAPTATION TO COMPLETE DENTURES<br />

Antioxidants are known for their stress-protective properties and are widely applied in gerontology. It<br />

became the precondition for use of combined preparation "Aevit" in patients which get used to dentures as this<br />

process is not especially dental, but is characterized by the signs of common adaptation syndrome and develops<br />

on background of disadaptation caused by ageing of the organism. The research aim is to study the influence of<br />

combined antioxidant preparation ―Aevit‖ on some somatic parameters and Kerdo‘s index during patients‘<br />

adaptation to artificial teeth. Under our supervision there were 32 adentulous patients of elderly and senile age.<br />

Complete removable dentures have been made of dental plastic according to standard technology. One group of<br />

patients served as a control. Patients of other group were prescribed "Аevit" (1 capsule daily during 45 days).<br />

Frequency of heart beats, frequency of breathing, and blood pressure were determined. Kerdo‘s index was<br />

calculated. These parameters were registered before the treatment, and also on the 1 st , the 7 th and the 30 th day<br />

after the start of dentures use. It is shown that patients prescribed with ―Aevit‘ display the dynamics of somatic<br />

parameters which differs from those in patients of control group by the greater expressiveness of changes in the<br />

frequency of heart beats and breath at the end of research. Distinguishes in changes of Kerdo‘s index also are<br />

found out also: its magnitude grew by the module on the 1 st and the 7 th day and return to the initial level in 30 days,<br />

but these fluctuations were smaller than the changes of autonomic regulation index in the control. The found out<br />

features allow to conclude that the development of adaptation in orthopedic dental patients on a background of the<br />

treatment with a combined antioxidant preparation ―Aevit‖ is characterized by the greater stability of autonomic<br />

regulation, especially those processes which concern cardiovascular system and consumption of oxygen.<br />
