William McHenry<br />

Last rites were held Wednesday at Lawton, Mich., for William McHENRY, 73, Gravel<br />

Lake, who died Sunday morning in Paw Paw, Mich. He was a step-brother of Fay RUSSELL,<br />

<strong>Rochester</strong>.<br />

Arwesta Brackett<br />

Mrs Lyman E. (Arwesta) BRACKETT, 78, former resident of <strong>Rochester</strong>, died Thursday<br />

night in a hospital at Kingsville, Texas, following a lengthy illness.<br />

After the death of her husband in Miami, Fla., Jan. 31, 1966, she was taken to a nursing<br />

home near Portland, Texas, a suburb of Corpus Christi, where her son Richard BRACKETT and<br />

wife and children reside.<br />

Arwesta PERSONETTE was born in Plymouth July 23, 1892 and later lived with her<br />

grandmother at Argos. Her marriage to Mr. Brackett took place at Argos in 1919. <strong>The</strong> couple<br />

lived here until 1954 when they moved with their son Richard to Globe, Ariz., and later to San<br />

Diego.<br />

Several years later they returned to <strong>Rochester</strong> and managed the south portion of the<br />

Arlington Block, composed of stores and apartments. <strong>The</strong> building was destroyed by fire in 1956<br />

after which they moved to Miami and managed two apartment buildings which they acquired.<br />

Following the tornado, Celia, Mrs. Brackett was moved to the nursing home at Kingsville.<br />

She is survived by the son and two grandchildren, Richard and Betty Louise<br />

[BRACKETT]. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Plans call for cremation with burial at<br />

<strong>Rochester</strong>.<br />

Joseph Albert Cummings<br />

Joseph Albert CUMMINGS, 51, LaPorte, a former <strong>Rochester</strong> resident, died at 4:35 a.m.<br />

today in a LaPorte hospital.<br />

A World War II veteran, he was born June 11, 1919, in Kewanna. His marriage was<br />

March 7, 1942, in Galveston, Texas., to Helen OVERMYER, who survives. He was manager of<br />

the Harvey Dime store in LaPorte and had resided in that city 15 years, moving from <strong>Rochester</strong>.<br />

He was a member of the Presbyterian church in <strong>Rochester</strong>, American Legion Post in LaPorte and<br />

the LaPorte Elks lodge. He was an active member of the LaPorte Retail Board.<br />

Surviving with the wife are one daughter, Mrs. Joseph BROVIAK, LaPorte; one son,<br />

Thomas A. [CUMMINGS], at home; two grandchildren; one brother, Andrew CUMMINGS, Fort<br />

Wayne; three sisters, Mrs. George STEININGER, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Thurle ALBER, <strong>Rochester</strong>,<br />

and Mrs. Steven GUNTER, McLean Shore, Ill.<br />

Final rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Haverstock funeral home in<br />

LaPorte. <strong>The</strong> Rev. Thomas NELSON will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in<br />

<strong>Rochester</strong>. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Sunday.
