Friday, February 27, <strong>1970</strong> SP4 Timothy R. Roe Army Specialist Four Timothy R. ROE, 18, <strong>Rochester</strong>, became <strong>Fulton</strong> county’s 11th victim of he Vietnam War when he died of injuries at 6:20 a.m. Thursday in a South Vietnam evacuation hospital. <strong>The</strong> son of Mrs. Donnabelle ROGERS, R.R. 1, Kewanna, and Roland R. ROE, Sr., 1020 Jefferson street, SP4 Roe was injured last Feb. 19 whil working on a tank. <strong>The</strong> cannon of the tank recoiled while SP4 Roe was inside the vehicle and the mechanism hit him in the back of the head. A former <strong>Rochester</strong> high school student, SP4 Roe received basic training at Fort Knox, Ky., and had been stationed in Vietnam since July 18, 1969. He is survived by his parents; the step-father, Carl ROGERS, R.R. 1, Kewanna; a sister, Sharon [ROE], a <strong>Rochester</strong> high school cheerleader, at home; four brothers, Rolland Richard ROE, Jr., R.R. 1, <strong>Rochester</strong>; James ROE, <strong>Rochester</strong>, Gary ROE, near Macy, and Kenneth ROE, at home; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George HARVEY, <strong>Rochester</strong>; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna ROE, <strong>Rochester</strong>; ;nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Funeral services are pending at the Foster & Good funeral home. SP4 is the fourth <strong>Rochester</strong> resident to die in the Armed Forces while serving in Vietnam. <strong>The</strong> others were James BALLINGER, Lawrence GIBSON and George PACKARD. Edith Stoughton Edith Irene (GRUWELL) CUNNINGHAM STOUGHTON, 52, <strong>Rochester</strong>, died Thursday at 10:50 a.m. in the Lutheran hospital, Fort Wayne. She had been ill one year. Born Nov. 22, 1917, in Miami county, she was the daughter of Cloyed and Lottie BRUCK GRUWELL. Her first marriage was Nov. 25, 1935, to Albert CUNNINGHAM, who died in May of 1958. Her second marriage was March 27, 1968 to Richard STOUGHTON, who survives. She had been a member of the First Christian church, <strong>Rochester</strong>, the Good Neighbor Club, Argos, and the Lady’s Auxiliary, <strong>Rochester</strong>. Surviving with the husband are two daughters, Mrs. Lester (Kay Ann) PICKEL, Logansport, and Miss Janet CUNNINGHAM, <strong>Rochester</strong>; two step-sons, Fred and Bernard STOUGHTON, both of Merrillville; one stepdaughter, Miss Diana STOUGHTON, also of Merrillville; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Mildred) PFLUGER, Kokomo, and Mrs. Jack (Florence) BRUBAKER, <strong>Rochester</strong>; three brothers, Leo, Lyman and Marvin GRUWELL, all of Peru; one foster-sister, Mrs. TEEL, Twelve Mile, and one foster-brother, Donald RICHARDSON, Miami. Alfred M. Shambarger Alfred M. SHAMBARGER, 75, Macy, died Thursday at 12:55 p.m. in a Fort Wayne hospital. Born Jan. 28, 1895, in Mexico, he was the son of Lewis and Frances ALLEN SHAMBARGER. Surviving are two brothers, Daniel H. SHAMBARGER, Mexico, and Lewis J. SHAMBARGER, <strong>Rochester</strong>, and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, two sisters, and two brothers preceded in death. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 12 noon in the Plainview cemetery, Macy. <strong>The</strong> Rev. MURDEN, 53, Peru, a summer resident of Lake Manitou, died in his home Thursday at 6:30 a.m. He had suffered a heart attack. Born May 18, 1916, in Peru, he was the son of Jesse L. and Mary RADEL MURDEN. His marriage was Nov. 15, 1939, to Pauline BRITTIAN, who survives. A former employee of the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad, he was a member of the St. Charles Catholic church and Phi Delta Kappa. Surviving with the wife are his mother, and one sister, Miss Ruth MURDEN, both of Peru. Final rites will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the St. Charles Catholic church. Father RUFFING will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Peru. HENNING, who died in 1960. A cook at the Culver elementary school, she was a member of the Kewanna Baptist church where she had been the pianist for 35 years. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Mary Esther HENNING, Culver, and one brother, Paul HIATT, South Bend. Final rites will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Baptist church, Kewanna. <strong>The</strong> Rev. Otis STONE will officiate, and the Rev. Raymond HOFFEDITZ will assist.
