Arthur G. Copeland<br />
Arthur G. “Art” COPELAND, 74, longtime <strong>Rochester</strong> newspaper reporter, died today at<br />
3:15 a.m. in his residence at 1028 Main street. He had been in ill health since March.<br />
Mr. Copeland spent his entire career in the pursuit of news concerning people and events<br />
of this community. It was, in fact, his hobby as well as his vocation and he was alert to news<br />
literally around the clock.<br />
For the past 29 years Mr. Copeland had acted as <strong>Rochester</strong> correspondent for numerous<br />
newspapers, including the Logansport Press, the South Bend Tribune and the Indianapolis Star.<br />
He also operated the <strong>Rochester</strong> Credit Bureau from his residence.<br />
He began his news career as a young man as reporter for <strong>The</strong> <strong>Rochester</strong> Republican, then<br />
worked for <strong>The</strong> Daily News and <strong>The</strong> News-<strong>Sentinel</strong>, joining the latter paper’s staff when a merger<br />
was effected in 1924. He left <strong>The</strong> News-<strong>Sentinel</strong>, now <strong>The</strong> <strong>Sentinel</strong>, in 1941 to perform his<br />
correspondent duties.<br />
A <strong>Rochester</strong> resident 70 years, Mr. Copeland was born July 15, 1896, in Chicago, the son<br />
of Arthur P. and Mary BOLEN COPELAND. His father was associated many years with the First<br />
Narional Bank here.<br />
He was a member of the Manitou Moose lodge, Masonic lodge, American Legion post<br />
and Eagles lodge and attended the United Presbyterian church. He never married.<br />
Surviving is one sister, Miss Ruth COPELAND, at home. Last rites will be Wednesday<br />
at 2 p.m. at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Allen JUMP officiating. Burial<br />
will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.<br />
Laura K. Glassman<br />
Mrs. Laura K. GLASSMAN, 87, former resident of R.R. 1, Kewanna, died at 3:03 p.m.<br />
Sunday in Pulaski Memorial hospital at Winamac.<br />
Born Oct. 5, 1883, at Wyatt, Ind., she was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth<br />
HUMMEL BERON. Her marriage was Dec. 27, 1900, to James GLASSMAN, who died in 1968.<br />
She was a member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran church at Winamac.<br />
Surviving are a son, Marvin [GLASSMAN], South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. Esther<br />
HICKLE, R.R. 1, Kewanna, and Mrs. Mildred HARMON, of South Bend; five grandchildren;<br />
twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer BERON,<br />
Wakarusa. Two susters preceded in death<br />
Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Huff-Mishler funeral home at Bremen.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Rev. William KEAPPLE will officiate. Burial will be in the Bremen cemetery. Friends may<br />
call at the funeral home.<br />
Chester R. Jones<br />
Services for Chester Rolland JONES, 63, Delong, will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the<br />
Easterday-Bonine funeral home in Culver with the Rev. Norris KING officiating.<br />
Burial will be in the Monterey cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.<br />
Mr. Jones, a Delong merchant, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday at Plymouth Parkview hospital<br />
following a two-week illness. He was born March 20, 1907, at London, Ky., to Humphrey and<br />
Lydia O’DELL JONES. On March 20, 1941 at Leiters Ford, he married Eva M. REINHOLT,<br />
who survives.<br />
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Melinda ROUCH, Chesterton; three sisters, Mrs.<br />
Vera KREISCHER, Portage; Mrs. Minnie DECKER, Culver, and Mrs. Esther CROOK, London,<br />
Ky., and four grandchildren.
