Clarence O. Poffenberger<br />

Final rites will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home, <strong>Rochester</strong>,<br />

for Clarence O. POFFENBERGER, 89, <strong>Rochester</strong>, who died Tuesday at 10:40 a.m. in Woodlawn<br />

hospital.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Rev. Jerry BOLINGER will officiate. Burial will be in the <strong>Rochester</strong> I.O.O.F.<br />

cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.<br />

Born April 26, 1880, in <strong>Rochester</strong>, he was the son of Sylvester and Delilah HARDING<br />

POFFENBERGER. His last marriage was Oct. 17, 1917, in <strong>Rochester</strong>, to Sarah E. SWANGO,<br />

who died in 1954. An interior decorator, he lived in the <strong>Rochester</strong> area all his life and attended the<br />

<strong>Rochester</strong> First Assembly of God church.<br />

Surviving are numerous grandchildren; four step-children, including Mrs. Edward<br />

CARPENTER, <strong>Rochester</strong>; one sister, Mrs. Estella LOCKHART, South Bend, and nieces and<br />

nephews. Two sons and one daughter preceded in death.<br />

Minnie Elkins<br />

Mrs. Minnie ELKINS, 85, South Bend, died Tuesday at 5:20 p.m., in Memorial hospital,<br />

South Bend. She was a former resident of Argos. Funeral services are pending at the Grossman<br />

funeral home, Argos.<br />

Final rites will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Grossman funeral home, Argos, for Mrs.<br />

Minnie E. ELKINS, 85, who died Tuesday at 5:20 p.m. in Memorial hospital, South Bend.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Rev. Robert HANSEN will officiate. Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery,<br />

Plymouth. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.<br />

Born Nov. 12, 1884, in Clinton, Tenn., she was the daughter of William and Mary<br />

WILLIAMS FOSTER. Her marriage was in 1906, in Clinton, Tenn., to Charles R. ELKINS, who<br />

died Nov. 27, 1946. A former resident of Argos, she had lived with her daughter, Mrs. Nellie<br />

SCHOSKER, South Bend.<br />

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Nellie SCHOSKER, South Bend; two sons, Osborn<br />

ELKINS, North Liberty, and Lee ELKINS, Kalamazoo, Mich.; fourteen grandchildren; twentyfive<br />

great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Rosie HERREL and Mrs. Willie BAYLESS, both of<br />

Clinton, Tenn., and two brothers, James FOSTER, Teegarden, Ind., and Ernest FOSTER, Buda,<br />

Ill.<br />

Ruth E. Shelton<br />

Ruth E. SHELTON, 77, Warsaw, former <strong>Rochester</strong> school teacher, died Wednesday at<br />

9:15 a.m. in Alfran nursing home, Warsaw. She had been ill ten years.<br />

Born Feb.10, 1893, in <strong>Fulton</strong> county, she was the daughter of John and Mary KRAUSE<br />

WHITTENBERGER. Her marriage was in 1924 to Fred C. SHELTON, who died Novemer 1965.<br />

Moving from Cullowhee, N.C., she had lived in Warsaw four years. A retired school teacher, she<br />

had taught in <strong>Rochester</strong>, Warsaw, Hobart, Manilla and Hendersonville, N.C She had attended the<br />

University of Chicago, North Carolina’s Teachers college, and Miss Blaker’s college,<br />

Indianapolis. She had attended the First United Methodist church, Warsaw.<br />

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Almon (Allee) GERARD, Warsaw, and Mrs. R. L.
