Abbie E. Burk<br />

Mrs. Abbie Elizabeth BURK, 77, Kewanna, died about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in Pulaski<br />

<strong>County</strong> Memorial hospital at Winamac, where she had been a patient five weeks.<br />

Born June 13, 1893 in Pulaski, she was the daughter of James and Mary SORRELL<br />

GREEN. She had lived in Kewanna about 40 years. She was married to Aaron William BURK,<br />

who died Feb. 25, 1956. She was a member of the Kewanna First Baptist church.<br />

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary CORRIE, Kewanna, and Mrs. Mildred<br />

SANDUSKY, Central Lake, Mich.; a son, Donald A. BURK, Kewanna; five grandchildren; five<br />

great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Emma HILT, Winamac, and a brother, William GREEN,<br />

Winamac.<br />

Last rites will be at the Fry and Lange funeral home in Winamac at 2 p.m. Friday with the<br />

Rev. Otis R. STONE officiating. Burial will be in the Winamac cemetery. Friends may call after<br />

noon Thursday at the funeral home.<br />

Clarence M. White<br />

Clarence M. WHITE, 86, R.R. 3, <strong>Rochester</strong>, died unexpectedly at 3:10 a.m. today in<br />

Woodlawn hospital.<br />

Born Jan. 3, 1884, near Plymouth, he was the son of William and Emma<br />

SHANEBROOK WHITE. His marriage was Oct. 7, 1905, to Elsie BRADLEY. She died May 15,<br />

1953. A factory worker, Mr. White had resided in the <strong>Rochester</strong> area 10 years, moving from Etna<br />

Green. He was a member of the East United Methodist church at Etna Green and the VFW<br />

Father’s Auxiliary in <strong>Rochester</strong>.<br />

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. George (Martha) SPARROW, Atwood; Mrs. Max<br />

(Elizabeth) GOTTSCHALK, Bourbon; five sons, Russell [WHITE], South Bend; Dale [WHITE],<br />

Griffity; Raymond [WHITE], Plymouth; Robert and Harold [WHITE], both of Etna Green;<br />

eighteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Clara RICHARDS,<br />

of Plymouth. Two brothers preceded in death.<br />

Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Deaton funeral home in Bourbon. Burial will be<br />

in the Etna Green cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday until the<br />

time of service on Friday.<br />

Thursday, October 15, <strong>1970</strong><br />

Otis A. Burkett<br />

Otis A. BURKETT, 64, Lake Manitou, longtime <strong>Rochester</strong> businessman, died<br />

unexpectedly at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at his residence of a heart attack.<br />

Mr. Burkett had owned and operated the Main Street tavern at 721 Main street for the<br />

past 26 years. He had resided in <strong>Rochester</strong> his entire life with the exception of 18 years spent in<br />

Indianapolis.<br />

Born Sept. 10, 1906, in Richland township, he was the son of Albert and Bertha LEEDY<br />

BURKETT. His marriage was Nov. 25, 1928, in <strong>Rochester</strong>, to Beulah B. SHONK, who survives.<br />

Mr. Burkett was a member of the Elks lodge at <strong>Rochester</strong>, the Manitou Moose lodge, Eagles<br />

lodge, and the Father’s Auxiliary of the VFW. He was a director of the Indiana Tavern<br />

association for the past 10 years.<br />

Surviving with the wife are three daughters, Mrs. J. D. (Joyce) GOOD, <strong>Rochester</strong>; Mrs.
