Earl Bond
Earl BOND, 45, Rochester, was killed instantly at 12:40 a.m. today near the Fulton-
Marshall county line when his 1969 Chevrolet pick-up truck struck the right rear of a semi owned
by Whiteford Leasing company, Inc., the Marshall county sheriff’s office reported today.
It was the first fatal traffic accident in Fulton county this year and only the second one in
the county in the last 18 months.
The semi, which had been leased to Morrison Livestock, Culver, was being driven by
Richard G. STAVEDAHL, 37, Mentone. He was not hurt.
Officers said both vehicles were northbound on U.S. 31 when simultaeously the semi
signalled for a left turn onto Ind. 110 and the pickup began to pass.
The pick-up swerved back to the right side of the road, striking the rear of the semi with
its left front side.
Officers said that at first there was doubt about exactly where the accident occurred. But
Marshall county sheriff’s department reported that the impact occurred 84 feet inside Fulton
county and the pickup came to a stop two feet in Marshall county.
Bond, who was pinned in his truck with a crushed chest and internal injuries, was
pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. F. Richard WALTON, Fulton county deputy coroner. Dr.
Walton said Bond was killed instantly.
The pickup was a total loss and the semi sustained $150 damage to the right rear mud
flap and tire.
Fulton County Sheriff Homer CARR and one of his deputies aided the Marshall county
sheriff’s department in the accident investigation.
Mr. Bond was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Hamden, O. His parents were William and Depha
WILBER BOND. His marriage was Aug. 22, 1950, in Greenup, Ky., to Sarah REFFITT, who
WW II veteran and a recipient of three bronze stars.
