Functions <strong>of</strong> Learning Sewices<br />
Learning Services provides the following learning and<br />
instructional technology services to <strong>Swinburne</strong>:<br />
learning resources production;<br />
instructional technology and curriculum advice;<br />
interactive multimedia learning facilities;<br />
educational computing services;<br />
academic staff development;<br />
classroom and technical support; and<br />
teaching/learning research.<br />
Classroom and Technical Support Unit<br />
The Classroom and Technical Support Unit is responsible for<br />
eauippina teachina maces with facilities which ~ermit the<br />
p~esenta~on <strong>of</strong> coiduter, video and audio outdut, overhead<br />
transparencies, 35mm slides and 16mm motion films. It also<br />
Drovides audiovisual eaui~ment for loan to teachina staff. To<br />
inaintain and repair these facilities and e~uipment,the<br />
Classroom and ~echnical Support Unit operates an extensive,<br />
well eaui~oed worksho~. Staff are available to assist with<br />
setting'up' operating, repairing and booking equipment as<br />
necessary.<br />
Learning Resources Production Unit<br />
The Learning ~esources Production Unit is the largest<br />
component <strong>of</strong> Learning Services. It is responsible for<br />
producing:<br />
tutorial, documentary, drama, animation and graphics<br />
material for distribution on videotape, videodisc,<br />
in digitised form on multimedia computers broadcast<br />
or delivered via ISDN-type facilities;<br />
tutorial, documentary, drama and music material<br />
for distribution on cassette tape, compact discs, in<br />
digitised form on multimedia computers or delivered<br />
via ISDN-type facilities;<br />
computer based learning materials (eg. tutorials and<br />
simulations to run on personal workstations or on<br />
larger machines accessible via the network), computer<br />
managed learning s<strong>of</strong>tware (eg. item banks for test<br />
generation, course management databases), s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />
for interactive multimedia courseware, and other<br />
educational s<strong>of</strong>tware;<br />
still images for delivery as 35mm slides, as overhead<br />
trans~arencies, in orinted form, or as Dart <strong>of</strong> a<br />
computer based learning program, videotape,<br />
videodisc or multimedia presentation;<br />
* animated graphic sequences for use in video<br />
programs and computer based learning materials.<br />
The Learning Resources Production Unit also provides<br />
photographic, film processing, <strong>of</strong>f-air recording, dubbing<br />
and post-production services.<br />
Computer and Network Student Dixiplinaly Code<br />
A Student Disciplinary Code has been introduced to protect<br />
the integrity and maximise the academic utility to the<br />
<strong>Swinburne</strong> community <strong>of</strong> the university's electronic<br />
information systems. The Code is printed in full in the<br />
Procedures and Regulations Section <strong>of</strong> the Handbook on<br />
page 437.<br />
