Subject aims<br />
To develop the students' understanding and practice <strong>of</strong><br />
communication, both written and verbal.<br />
Subject description<br />
The theory and practice <strong>of</strong> communications. Students take part<br />
in a program designed to increase their personal capacities to<br />
understand and communicate well at different levels <strong>of</strong> oral<br />
and written communication, particularly as project managers in<br />
the construction industry. To this end various techniques are<br />
used and evaluated by the group.<br />
The course also includes a brief study <strong>of</strong> the historical role <strong>of</strong><br />
the engineer in the development <strong>of</strong> human communications,<br />
placing the pr<strong>of</strong>ession in its social context. The purpose <strong>of</strong> the<br />
course is to enable the engineer to evaluate pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
problems more competently and to communicate ideas more<br />
effectively.<br />

This subject is intended to enable students to gain an<br />
understanding <strong>of</strong> the relevant law applicable to the building<br />
and construction process and to provide the students with the<br />
necessary skills to administer a building project.<br />
Subject description<br />
Contract types, contract documents, conditions <strong>of</strong> contract,<br />
choice <strong>of</strong> contract type relating to risk and financial<br />
considerations, site documentation, computer applications for<br />
site administration <strong>of</strong> contracts.
