The decision <strong>of</strong> the Appeals Committee will<br />

be by a majority vote.<br />

9.3 Action<br />

a) After any meeting <strong>of</strong> the Examination and<br />

Assessment Conduct Committees, the<br />

Academic Registrar will advise the student<br />

within three working days <strong>of</strong> the Committee's<br />

decision and the penalty, if any, which has<br />

been imposed.<br />

b) The statement must also contain the<br />

Committee's reasons and detail relevant appeal<br />

mechanisms.<br />

10. Results<br />

10.1 Result categories<br />

10.1.1 The following assessment categories will<br />

normally be used to record a student's<br />

performance in a subject:<br />

High Distinction<br />

(HD)<br />

Distinction 0)<br />

Credit<br />

(c)<br />

Pass<br />

(PI<br />

Not pass<br />

(N)<br />

Not pass/Late withdrawal (NWD)<br />

Not pass because <strong>of</strong> late withdrawal<br />

(See section 5.2)<br />

Not passlno attempt<br />

(NA)<br />

Not pass, did not present any work<br />

for assessment either by examination<br />

or other form <strong>of</strong> assessment or both.<br />

10.1.2 Where it is not appropriate for results in a<br />

subject to be issued through the full range<br />

<strong>of</strong> categories authorised by these<br />

procedures, two categories only shall be<br />

used:<br />

Pass<br />

(P)<br />

Not pass<br />

(N)<br />

If this provision is used a statement shall be<br />

included in the published results to the<br />

effect that only one category <strong>of</strong> satisfactory<br />

achievement was awarded in the subject<br />

concerned:<br />

10.1.3 In courses in Engineering, the following<br />

result, approved by Academic Board, may<br />

be used:<br />

Faculty pass<br />

(FP)<br />

In special circumstances in courses in<br />

Engineering the following results are<br />

applicable:<br />

Supplementary Exam<br />

(SUP)<br />

Supplementary Pass<br />

(SP)<br />

Supplementary Fail<br />

(SN)<br />

10.1.4 In some courses in the Division <strong>of</strong> Business,<br />

Humanities and Social Science, the<br />

following result, approved by Academic<br />

Board for use from first semester 1993,<br />

may be used to indicate that the student<br />

has passed the subject but may not proceed<br />

to a stage 1, 2 or 3 subject when the<br />

subject in which the PX is awarded is a<br />

pre-requisite.<br />

Terminal Pass<br />

(PX)<br />

10.1.5 The following interim results are applicable<br />

in special circumstances:<br />

Special exam (SPX) refer section 12<br />

Deferred (DEF) refer section 10.3<br />

Continuing (CON) refer section 10.4<br />

Exempt (EXM) See divisional<br />

Advanced Standing*<br />

'Not a result category after 1993<br />

10.2 Processing results<br />

10.2.1 The Subject Convener shall submit the<br />

following to the Head <strong>of</strong> School:<br />

a) the results recommended for each<br />

student enrolled for the subject;<br />

b) such statistics as are required by the<br />

Head <strong>of</strong> School and Divisional Board;<br />

c) a subject report signed by the Subject<br />

Convener in a form approved by the<br />

awarding Divisional Board, including:<br />

certification that these procedures<br />

have been carried out;<br />

a statement <strong>of</strong> the assessment<br />

procedure followed;<br />

copies <strong>of</strong> all examinations, tests and<br />

assignments;<br />

copies <strong>of</strong> solutions or statements <strong>of</strong><br />

minimum qualities; and<br />

an appraisal <strong>of</strong> the subject as a<br />

whole;.<br />

10.2.2 The Subject Convener shall ensure that a<br />

review has been carried out <strong>of</strong> the work <strong>of</strong><br />

all candidates who are recommended as<br />

having failed a subject, or whose results are<br />

on the borderline between assessment<br />

categories.<br />

10.2.3 The Head <strong>of</strong> School shall recommend for<br />

approval to the awarding Divisional Board<br />

the results <strong>of</strong> all enrolled students<br />

10.2.4 After the Divisional Board has approved the<br />

results, the Divisional Manager shall<br />

arrange for the <strong>of</strong>ficial results to be<br />

recorded and delivered to the Student<br />

Administration Office.
